This was Bayern Munich's first Bundesliga game on the road since suffering their worst league defeat in a decade when they went down 1-5 at Eintracht Frankfurt on matchday 10. Bayern had responded well to that setback by thumping Borussia Dortmund 4-0 in the first Der Klassiker of the season.

In their first Bundesliga game since the international break which saw the Euro 2020 qualifiers draw to a close, Bayern coach Hansi Flick made two changes from the side which started against Dortmund. Leon Goretzka and Kingsley Coman made way for Corentin Tolisso and Philippe Coutinho for Bayern's matchday-12 trip to Fortuna Dusseldorf.

It would prove to be an inspired change from Flick as both men found themselves on the score-sheet.

Prolific striker Robert Lewandowski was in the thick of action in the early exchanges at the Merkur Spiel-Arena, seeing an early shot blocked by the Fortuna defence and teeing up Thomas Muller for a shy on goal. The first goal of the game was not long in coming as Benjamin Pavard headed in a Joshua Kimmich corner to open the scoring for the defending champions.

It marked the sixth time this season that Bayern had scored a goal within the opening 15 minutes of a Bundesliga game, drawing level with Paderborn. When Serge Gnabry's cross was turned in at the half-hour mark by Tolisso, Bayern had a two-goal cushion.

Far from slackening their hold on the game, Bayern continued to come at Dusseldorf as Gnabry grazed the post from a Lewandowski pass before he made it three on the cusp of half-time.

With a comfortable cushion, Bayern's intensity dropped in the second half but Dusseldorf struggled to create too many clear-cut scoring opportunities. The only moment of excitement for the home crowd came in the 56th minute when Dusseldorf had the ball in the Bayern net off a quickly taken free-kick, before the referee ruled out the effort.

After Dusseldorf captain Oliver Flink let loose a wayward effort from distance, it was the visitors who were soon knocking on the door again. Lewandowski saw a goal-bound header tipped away by the Dusseldorf keeper midway through the second half before Philippe Coutinho turned in Lewandowski's cross to make it 4-0 for the visitors.

It marked Bayern's second-straight 4-0 win in the Bundesliga, following on from their 4-0 home win over Borussia Dortmund before the international break two weeks ago. The result would be particularly heartening for the Bayern defence since they did not allow a shot on their goal for the first time this season.

As Bayern return to Bavaria with full points from their trip to Dusseldorf, here are three talking points from the Matchday-12 fixture between the two teams.

#1 Lewandowski's 11-game scoring streak comes to an end

For the first time in the Bundesliga this season, Bayern's prolific striker Robert Lewandowski failed to find the back of the net. That ended a record 11-game scoring streak for the Pole.

A goal for the Poland forward would have tied Gerd Muller's 1971-72 record of 17 goals from the first 12 games of a Bundesliga season. Lewandowski also fell one short of matching his personal-best Bundesliga scoring streak of 12 games, which he achieved with Borussia Dortmund in 2012-13.

But there was to be no respite for Dusseldorf on the night as four different Bayern players found the back of the net.

#2 Bayern coach Hansi Flick has led his team to 3 wins in 3 games without conceding a goal

Since being entrusted to coach the first-team following the unceremonious ouster of erstwhile coach Nico Kovac post the humbling 5-1 defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt, Hansi Flick has led Bayern to three wins in as many games without conceding a goal.

This is the best start by a Bayern coach since Carlo Ancelotti. Bayern's second-straight 4-0 Bundesliga victory sees the Munich club move to within a point of leaders leaders Borussia Monchengladbach, who succumbed to a loss at promoted club Union Berlin earlier in the day.

Considering the extent of Flick's impact on Bayern's fortunes since their worst Bundesliga defeat in a decade, the German is making a strong case for himself to be at the helm for a longer period of time than 'till at least the Christmas break', as suggested by the club's CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

#3 Bayern have 4 different scorers in a Bundesliga game for the second time this season

For the first time since the 6-1 home win over Mainz on matchday-3, Bayern saw four different scorers in a Bundesliga game. The quartet of Benjamin Pavard, Corentin Tolisso, Serge Gnabry and Philippe Coutinho all scored in the 4-0 away win at Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Ironically, this was also a game which saw Bayern's prolific scorer Robert Lewandowski draw a blank for the first time in a Bundesliga game this season.

At the end of the day though, that would only be a minor setback for the Polish forward as his blistering scoring pace this season keeps him on track to overhaul Gerd Muller's record single season tally of 40 goals in a Bundesliga season, set in 1971-72.
