Simon Kjaer: London calling

Chelsea may possess the most number of clean sheets this season but that still hasn’t stopped the London club from making contact with the Turkish club, Fenerbahce over Danish international, Simon Kjaer.

There have been reported rumours of the player being interested in moving to London and now according to various sources in the media, Chelsea have contact over a possible January move for the player.

The Turkish club is currently managed by Dick Advocaat, who was in charge of Sunderland last season and according to him, the 27-year-old has progressed in leaps and bounds since his arrival from Lille in the summer of 2015.

Recent controversy

In a Europa league tie with Manchester United this season, the Danish international was at the forefront of a throat-grabbing incident. At the time, Zlatan Ibrahimovic of Manchester United grabbed the defender’s throat after the defender had done an excellent job of marking the Swede.

When Kjaer was questioned about the incident at the time, he stated, “He is the kind of chest-puffing player, who is arrogant. That is his way of playing. My way of playing is to mark him as tightly as possible and to give him as little space as possible because he is a good player.”

Kjaer went on to also state that such incidents are also a part of football and are not meant to be taken seriously as these kinds of reactions happen in the “heat of the moment”. He went on to dismiss the incident as not a serious one and rather focussed on the victory.

Similar incidents

Conte recognises the ability of the defender to stay calm in such situations which have made him a possible target for the Italians plans. The Dane’s possible move to Chelsea is sure to benefit Antonio Conte as his side looks to consolidate their position at the top of the table.

John Terry, the club captain hasn’t featured much this season and one will probably expect him to call time on his career at the end of this season. However, Conte has now recognised the Danish defender as an ideal replacement. Kurt Zouma is also back from injury and Conte is aware that over the hectic Christmas period he will need to rotate his squad.

Chelsea takes on Bournemouth on Boxing Day at Stamford Bridge and will look to carry on their good form.
