Reports: Chelsea favourites to sign Real Madrid superstar

FC Barcelona Training Session
There might finally be some good news for Antonio Conte

What's the story?

Chelsea have never been shy about spending big money in the transfer market and now Betway's Alan Alger (via Daily Star) has said that the Blues are favourites ahead of both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur to complete the signing of Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale. Alger said:

“Gareth Bale looks close to the Bernabeu exit door, with the 28-year-old now 3/1 to join Chelsea, the city rivals of his former club Spurs, who are a distant 10/1 to bring him back to the Lane.

“The Blues are always looking to add to their artillery and given the wizard winger’s fraught relationship with current club Real Madrid, the 2018/19 season appears the ideal time to bring Bale back to the Premier League, with Manchester United less likely to secure his services at 9/2.”

Is Bale going to come back to the Premier League?

Gareth Bale had a hugely successful spell at Tottenham before making a big money move to Real Madrid in 2013. Although Bale made a stunning start to his La Liga career, the Welshman has since struggled for both form and fitness and it seems like the Madrid board is ready to revamp their squad in the summer window.

There were talks of Bale being offered in a cash + player deal for Eden Hazard and it will be interesting to see where Gareth Bale will be playing next season.

The heart of the matter

Gareth Bale has often been relegated to the bench due to his form and fitness and it seems like Real Madrid might now actually be ready to cash in on the Welsh winger. Still only 28, Bale could prove to be a gamechanger for Chelsea and help them reach the heights they reached under Conte last season once again.

Blessed with immense pace, excellent crossing abilities, and a powerful shot, Bale if fit, is definitely one capable of winning a game singlehandedly.

Rumour rating/probability: 6/10

Gareth Bale has continuously been linked with an exit and he might well make a move back to the Premier League this summer. Only a few clubs will be able to afford his wages and the Welshman might just join Stamford Bridge if Madrid do indeed greenlight his sale.

Author's take

If Gareth Bale is on the market, Chelsea should definitely do everything in their power to sign the Welshman. Although Bale might have struggled this season, there is no denying his obvious class and he could prove to be a very shrewd investment for the 2016/17 Premier League champions.
