Chelsea vs Huddersfield: Reaction from a Chelsea fan

It was 2:30 AM where I am right now. Referee Tom Henning Ovrebo Lee Mason blew the final whistle, and I was frustrated. I had picked up an elbow injury a few days ago, but all the pain faded in front of the pain of having to watch the Europa League next year, having to watch my favorite players and YouTubers bear Thursday nights away at Siberia.

When the TV screen zoomed into the face of Jonas Lossl, I threw a punch. Ouch. The aforementioned injury made me hurt a bit, but I still had the rage to throw air punches at Willy Caballero and Alvaro Morata. I didn't care about the physical pain. But it is absolutely unacceptable for Chelsea to bottle it the way they did.

The lineup was surprising, especially in such a crunch game. After watching Huddersfield pull off a draw away to Manchester City, Antonio Conte should have known better than to rotate so heavily. When the match started, I knew what to expect: Huddersfield sitting back and defending with Chelsea attacking. And the Huddersfield formation was something I'd never seen before. Seven at the back, no midfielders, none up front. Four goalkeepers: one of which was The Devil (Jonas Lossl), and the other three who didn't feel the need to use their hands.

Speaking of The Devil, he had an incredible display. Produced some fine saves, but what impressed me the most was how safe his hands were. Caballero, on the other hand, is usually the exact opposite. Cannot even catch a cold. But I make this remark about Lossl being The Devil not because of his annoyingly brilliant performance, but his cheap play.

He wasted way too much time. Had we been Real Madrid in the Champions League, he would have been sent off for consecutive time wasting offences within the first ten minutes. But it isn't the case; we are in fact one of the teams referees despise. In the end, The Devil did his job of being a presence during set plays, being the voice at the back, and also doing the unethical work.

Remember how I mentioned my hand? I was able to punch, get hurt through the pain because I had the desire to let it all out. Desire. Something a certain Spanish striker lacks. I barely saw Morata making useful contributions, his highlight being the missed one v one with The Devil after a fine through pass from N'golo Kante.

True, he wasn't flopping to the floor as much as he did before his back injury, but this time he was scared to even come in contact with opposition defenders. To be honest, he did show desire to achieve this remarkable feat of not touching the ball at all.

70 million pounds won't buy this kind of passion

There are many more individual players I want to slate: Caballero for hesitating and going down easily the one time he was called upon, Cesc Fabregas for being useless and invisible as ever, Davide Zappacosta for not doing anything on the ball, Andreas Christensen for straying upfield during their goal, Antonio Rudiger for being unable to hit a cow's behind with a banjo (he's a center back, I know, but still), Willian and Pedro for their attempts to prove that age is catching up with them.

When it comes to Huddersfield, the only noteworthy performers were The Devil and Laurent Depoitre. Speaking of the latter, when I heard that he hadn't scored in sixteen games, I knew what was coming. Crystal Palace, Romelu Lukaku, Spurs at Stamford Bridge, and tons of other strikers ending goal droughts. Oh and another Huddersfield star is Lee Mason. A brilliant performance, easily one of the best players for Huddersfield, the one to thank for their prolonged stay in the Premier League.

But instead let's talk about what's left. An away trip to Newcastle, great. I see us winning, and Brighton taking points off Liverpool, but not all three. We miss fourth place by goal difference, making us wonder what could have been.

Bournemouth at home, Watford away, Crystal Palace away, Arsenal away, West Ham home and away, the 0-0 draws. While the usual suspects like Morata and Bakayoko have cost us points on a fair few occasions, even players like Eden Hazard and Christensen have had shockers at times.

The transfer window was a failure. While other teams have signed players like Neymar and Philippe Coutinho, we have signed inspirational names, world-beaters such as Danny Drinkwater, Emerson Palmieri, Zappacosta, and Ross Barkley. A few more signings like Marouane Fellaini, Peter Crouch, Jack Rodwell, Eric Djemba-Djemba, Claudio Bravo and Cuco Martina would surely help us become champions of the galaxy.

I'm done now, can't think of the future until the FA Cup final. Preview soon, after I see Jose's bus and our attempt at football one last time this Premier League season. I have exams the next two days, but I am going to watch and hope, because I care, unlike Fabregas. Later.
