Diego Costa is in the news again, for all the wrong reasons

Chelsea striker, Diego Costa, who is currently on national duty with Spain, has accused the Spanish media of unfairly treating him.

The striker who was born in Brazil but chose to play for Spain in 2013, had blasted the media over treating him differently. He made these comments after Spain's 2-0 victory yesterday in an international friendly where he was introduced as a first half substituted and also gave an assist.

Costa said, “Sometimes the press criticise me because I don’t play for Madrid or Barca or because I’m not a native Spaniard, but I think I had a good game, possibly my best for Spain. A new era has begun and my teammates have faith in me.”

“It’s true that the goals are still not there, but today I had a good feeling and the goals will come. I’d be worried if I didn’t have chances, but the team create them and that’s very good. I hope to score soon."

The 27-year-old continued, “I’m criticised for my character, but I also have quality. I won’t change, even if I’m criticised."

It was a new start for Spain as Julen Lopetegui's took charge of the former world champions for the first time. Spain defeated Belgium with a brace from David Silva. Costa had a good outing in his return game for the Spanish national team as he was not included in the squad for the Euros.

This attack from Costa comes after he criticised referees for treating him unfairly in August. After Chelsea's opening day match against West Ham United, Costa said, "I am aware of it now. The second time I went to talk to him, he showed me the yellow card. I even found it a bit weird, but then I understood.”

The Brazilian-born player continued, “I went to apologise at half-time and that’s it. But I’ll be honest, I am targeted here, by the referees, the people. If I do something, it’s totally different than if any other players do. It needs to be seen, that people targeted me.”

Costa has time and again played the victim during his time in England. He has started the 2016-27 strongly, scoring winners against West Ham and Watford.

The Blues have been unbeaten in the league under Antonio Conte, as the Italian has already started to have an impact on the Blues. Chelsea signed two players on deadline day; Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina and David Luiz from PSG.
