Sometimes in football, drastic measures are taken, but, FC Grenchen have taken that to a whole new level. The Switzerland outfit is at the bottom of the 1. Liga Classic with 5 points having played 14 matches.

The sporting director, Renato Brun, felt that some action had to be taken and he decided to sack all the 11 players who started their last match, in a 0-10 defeat to FC Lucerne’s youth team, right after the match got over.

FC Grenchen have conceded 80 goals

FC Grenchen was founded in 1906 and have won one major title, winning the Swiss Cup in 1959. They have finished runners-up in Switzerland’s top division 4 times, but, don’t have any major achievements after they were relegated in 1986. The Swiss-based team suffered another relegation in 1995 and have since then played in the 1. Liga Classic.

In the league this season, they have conceded 80 goals and scored a mere 10, while in their last 9 matches, the team have won a grand total of 0 points.

The head coach of FC Grenchen, Patrick Boesch, surprisingly survived the mass culling by Brun, but, he would not be oblivious to what his future holds if results don’t improve dramatically.

He said, “It works well and is not an issue. Others would have long since chucked in the towel in this situation.”

Manager thinks players aren’t good enough for the league

Renato Brun was recently hired to be the sporting director of the struggling team in September but, he has not taken much time to leave his mark on the field. He said, “It sounds brutal, but these players are not good enough for this league.

I am the head of sport and there to do something when the club is not running smoothly. I am one who talks less and does more.” Who all take the field in their next match against high-flying Black Stars Basel is uncertain as the manager will have 11 fewer players to choose from.
