Former Prayag United striker Josimar on Salgaocar’s radar

Former Prayag United striker Josimar da silva Martins could be back in Indian football in the new year, as the Brazilian is on the radar of Salgaocar, who are desperate to revive their faltering I-League campaign.

Salgaocar, the 2010-11 I-League champions, lie second from bottom in the I-League table with just six points from ten matches, and having scored just seven goals, are in dire need of a goal scorer.

With English coach David Booth having taken over in the middle of the season after the departure of Karim Bencherifa to Mohun Bagan, the club management have started the rebuilding process by releasing Australian striker Sean Rooney and are set to sign former Singapore international John Wilkinson.

Salgaocar next plan to talk to Philippines international Angel Guirado about his future once he is back from international duty at the AFF Suzuki Cup.

Josimar spent three seasons at Prayag, being their biggest goal scoring threat during his time there. But with the addition of Ranti Martins, the Brazilian became surplus to requirements and was released earlier this summer.

Salgaocar secretary R.A.J. Gomes told Sportskeeda that the deal is far from done but admitted that Josimar certainly is the kind of player they are looking for.

“We are looking for a striker that has the experience of Indian football and he (Josimar) certainly meets that requirement. But we will only take a decision once we talk to Guirado and of course the coach will also give his inputs,” Gomes told Sportskeeda.
