Manchester United’s ‘boring’ gameplay has attracted a lot of flak from the Old Trafford faithful. The manager, though, is adamant that his so-called ‘philosophy’ will ultimately bear fruit for the team, but that time doesn’t seem to come.
After a rather flat display against PSV on a famous “Champions League evening” at Old Trafford, a match which ended 0-0, United failed to convert their ball possession once again against Leicester in a match where Jamie Vardy broke the record of United legend Van Nistelrooy after he scored for the 11th match running.
Gary Lineker joined the list of a number of legends to criticise LVG’s tactics when he took to twitter to post a series of tweets questioning United’s performance against the Foxes.
When Manchester United seemed to gain the upper hand in the match after launching a number of attacks in the latter stages of the first half and then in the initial minutes of the second match, Lineker who spent nine years at Leicester in his career tweeted,
All-time third highest goal scorer for England was quite highly impressed by Leicester’s display and also praised Jamie Vardy after he broke the 12-year-old record.
The Red Devils had 69% ball possession in the match and made almost 600 passes, but only managed a 1-1 draw.
The Old Trafford crowd is clearly not happy with the team’s performances and are quite often heard shouting “attack attack” in order to urge the players to move forward.
Ex- Man United midfielder Paul Scholes even went on to say that he would have never enjoyed playing under LVG as there is no creativity in the team whatsoever.
"There's a lack of creativity and risk," said Scholes.
"But it seems he (Van Gaal) doesn't want players to beat men and it's probably not a team I'd have enjoyed playing in."
