German football coach to train Burundian players

Bujumbura (Burundi), Nov 17 – Germany will send an expert in football to train Burundian players, the Burundian government said here after the signing of an agreement with Germany.

The signing of the agreement Friday took place between Burundian External Relations and International Cooperation Minister Laurent Kavakure and German Ambassador to Burundi Bruno Brommer, reports Xinhua.

“Germany accepted to provide assistance, advice and training of Burundian national football coaches. The European country also accepted to set up a program targeting the promotion of football training centres in our country (Burundi),” said Burundian External Relations and International Cooperation Minister Laurent Kavakure after the ceremony of signing the agreement.

Kavakure acknowledged that Germany is a “performing” country in sports and especially in football.

Kavakure said: “We commend this technical support which will further improve performances of our football players.”

Football in Burundi has been in decrescendo since the resignation of the east African country’s national football team Adel Amrouche late in February this year, protesting against “tough conditions” Burundian players were facing.

When Amrouche announced his resignation Feb 29, 2012, he said he would not continue to work “without necessary equipment and financial means” of Burundian football players of the Intamba mu Rugamba national team.
