In case you don't know, Robert Lewandowski has been one of the best players in the world over the last four or so years. Whilst Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been locked in a personal duel at the top of the professional footballing mountain, Lewandowski has been one of the best of the rest and is regularly being pitted against the likes of Sergio Aguero and Luis Suarez in debates over which of them is the best out-and-out striker.

Unlike Suarez, whose form has somewhat dipped since his golden boot winning 2015/16 season, Lewandowski has shown no signs of slowing down. Since the 2015/16 season, Lewandowski has scored at least 40 goals a season in all competitions which is an incredible feat.

He's never quite managed to finish a season with at least a goal-a-game like Ronaldo and Messi have done over the last decade, though he has been close. This season, however, the Polish international is on course to do that and it could be a record-breaking season for him.

With 20 games under his belt so far, Lewandowski has scored a stupendous 27 goals. This is a ratio of 1.35 goals per game in all competitions. Since Bayern Munich's super cup triumph over Dortmund in August, Lewandowski has only failed to score in two games for Bayern Munich.

His personal best season stands at 43 goals in 47 games, which he achieved in the 2016/17 season. If he can maintain his current goalscoring form, however, the Polish superstar is on course to smash that record.

During his time at Bayern, Lewandowski has never played fewer than 47 games or higher than 51 games in a single season for the club. This averages to 49 games a season for Bayern Munich.

His current goalscoring form of 1.35 goals per game would see him end the season with a staggering 66 goals if he were to play his average of 49 games. If we look at his stats in the Bundesliga alone, Lewandowski is currently on course to smash Gerd Muller's record of 40 goals in a single season.

Should he play all of the remaining 22 games left in the Bundesliga and maintain his goalscoring average, Lewandowski could finish the season with almost 50 goals! Which is a figure that Messi and Ronaldo would be proud of in their prime.

If that wasn't enough, Lewandowski has 10 goals in just five games so far. If Bayern Munich were to win the tournament, that would mean an initial eight games for Lewandowski to play in, though typically his goalscoring form would dry up slightly when facing harder opposition, he has a real shot at breaking Ronaldo's staggering 17 goals in a single season.

Of course, as the season goes on in all likelihood Lewandowski will go through a minor dry patch as do all players, which means that he may not reach all of these staggering figures. As fatigue starts to set in, it will become harder to maintain his current untouchable form.

Nevertheless, he has a real shot at breaking a number of records this season and is currently situated to win the golden boot, lest he is reeled in by somebody, which is no less than what this wonderfully talented player deserves.
