It may only be the close season but arch-rivals Mohun Bagan and East Bengal are already engaged in a competition as they are going head-to-head to sign India international Anthony Pereira.

The 31-year-old wide midfielder is set to leave Dempo after seven seasons and Sportskeeda revealed on Thursday that the player has held talks with East Bengal. However, on Saturday, it was learnt that Mohun Bagan have also shown interest in signing Anthony and could complete the move on Sunday.

Anthony had expressed his desire of trying a new challenge outside Goa and it looks like Kolkata will be his next destination.

The player confirmed to Sportskeeda on Saturday that he has also spoken to Mohun Bagan, “They have contacted me and I have had some discussions but I haven’t signed anywhere yet.”

It is believed that the club with the more lucrative offer will be the player’s preferred choice, and the green-and-maroon brigade are currently favourites to rope in the India international.

Lalkamal to MB?

Mohun Bagan are also close to signing central midfielder Lalkamal Bhowmick, who has spent the last three seasons at Prayag United Sports Club. The India medio’s first top flight club was Mohun Bagan, where he spent five years, and now is close to a return due to Prayag’s ongoing financial problems.
