The heart of the Matter

A former international footballer herself from the picturesque Goa, Uvena made her maiden appearance in Indian colours in 2003 before she joined the Air Force Academy in 2006 and opted to switch to refereeing, with an approach to give back to the sport which had given her a new lease of life.

"It is like another dream coming true and I cannot believe that I will be officiating in my second FIFA World Cup in less than two years,” she said, visibly thrilled by the latest opportunity that has presented itself before her.

She also added "It is not only a boost for me, it’s a boost for Women’s Football and Women’s Refereeing in general and it shows that Indian Referees can also make it to the big stage on a regular basis,” signaling that there is always hope for youngsters waiting in the wings.

A squadron leader with a post in the Air Traffic Control section, Uvena claims that her multitasking ability and work experience will help her to tackle situations that come her way during her assignment as part of the upcoming World Cup.

What's next?

With one eye out for the World Cup, Uvena will look to bring all experience from officiating in the previous edition when she steps onto the turf, a moment which will also be one to cherish for the growth of Indian football.
