Invincible Supernova FC claim Division 2 championship

Supernova were awarded the trophy by Bengaluru FC manager Ashley Westwood

Supernova FC was confirmed as champions and they did so in style, winning every game of the season including their hard-fought victory over Diablos FC on the final day. Diablos FC would be disappointed, after putting up a spirited fight for second place, a position that guarantees promotion to Division 1 but had to settle for 3rd place instead after losing the game.

Parikrma FC, who had won earlier in the day against Diego FC, leapfrogged Diablos FC to finish second and secure promotion. Athlos United FC and FC Brunton each kept their original spots of 4th and 6th with wins against Phoenix FC and FK FC respectively. Netbusters, too kept their 5th spot intact, despite a 8-0 drubbing at the hands of Warriors FC.

This result, along with Diego FC’s loss condemned them to 8th place while Warriors jumped up to 7th. Phoenix FC stayed put in 9th while FK FC earned the dubious distinction of not registering even a single point in the entire season and finish rock bottom of the table. Teams will now be looking forward to Season 3, which starts on September 27th, 2015.

Warriors FC 8 – 0 Netbusters

The game between Warriors FC and Netbusters was the first to be played on the final day. This was perhaps the shock of the league so far, with Warriors thumping Netbusters by 8 goals while keeping a clean sheet. The star of the match - and the season- for Warriors was Saheed who scored 5 goals in the game.

Though the result was inconsequential, Netbusters would not have been too happy with the way they ended their campaign even though they secured 5th place, a commendable achievement. Warriors FC jumped a place to finish 7th and end the season on a high.

Scorers: Warriors FC: Saheed Adoye 24’, 32’, 46’, 48’, 57’; Shreyas Gopinath 30’; Athisu James 51’; Debraj Tarafder 42’

FC Brunton 7 – 0 FK FC

Next up, FC Brunton took on basement dwellers FK FC. This was the last chance for FK FC to somewhat resurrect their abysmal record in the league. For Brunton, though, it was about consolidating 6th place. They came out prepared for the last game and played with swagger, thrashing their opponents by 7 goals.

FK FC’s dismal season continued and they had no answers to their opposition’s plays which meant they finished the season without registering even a single point; an unenviable record. FC Brunton finally found their attacking rhythm and can hopefully build on this for their preparation for the upcoming season.

Scorers: FC Brunton: Gaurav Sondhi 7’, Aditya Chandra 15’, 47’, 50’, 54’; Gautam Rego 37’, 44’

Athlos United FC 2 – 0 Phoenix FC

Walkover awarded to Athlos United.

Parikrma 4 – 0 Diego FC

Parikrma took on Diego FC in the penultimate game of the season. Parikrma needed to win to stay in contention for second place with their immediate rivals, Diablos FC due to play next. Parikrma went on to win the game comfortably beating Diego FC, who had nothing much to place.

But this result, combined with the 8-0 win for Warriors FC meant that they dropped down to 8th place after a mid-season revival. Parikrma though stuck to their game and ensured there were no slip-ups, which eventually led to promotion for them.

Scorers: Parikrma : Nikhil Gopal 6’; Saravana S 45’, 56’; Chiranjeevi M 57’

Diablos FC 3 – 4 Supernova FC

The final game of the day and the season was the blockbuster between Diablos FC and Champions Supernova FC, which did not disappoint. This was a make or break game for Diablos and the game did justice to every ounce of expectation there was in the build-up.

Onlookers were treated to an edge of the seat in a seven-goal encounter with Diablos pushing the champions till the very end. But Supernova showed why they are champions by responding in emphatic fashion by coming from behind to win the game. It must have been a huge disappointment for the Diablos players, after having played out of their skins and still missing out on promotion but they will take a lot of heart out of their display.

Scorers: Diablos FC : Tariq Sheriff 4’; Barry Anand(OG) 38’; Tushar Das 43’; Supernova FC: Vivekananda 20’, 30’; Manoj R 24’, 39’
