Tehran, Feb 7 (IANS) Iran beat Lebanon 5-0 in Group B of the 2015 Asian Cup football qualifiers.
In the match held in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium on Wednesday, Iranian midfielder Javad Nekounam scored three goals and striker Reza Ghoochannejhad scored the other two goals, Xinhua reports.
In another Group B game, Kuwait defeated Thailand 3-1 in Bangkok.
Twenty teams are contesting for 11 spots, with the top two teams from each group and the best third-placed team among all five groups advancing. The contests for the last round of the Asian Cup will be held in January 2015, with Sydney, Melbourne, Queensland, and Canberra to host the matches.
