After slipping to the bottom of the Indian Super League table, Kerala Blasters have announced that they have parted ways with English coach Peter Taylor on Wednesday afternoon. The announcement by the ISL franchise followed just a day after the team suffered a 3-2 defeat away to FC Pune City.

The 62-year-old was appointed as the head coach of the ISL franchise earlier this year on 8 May, before the start of the second edition of the competition. Taylor arrived in India boasting an impressive CV and it appeared as though the appointment of the former Crystal Palace manager was the right decision made by the club.

Taylor was in charge of the Kochi-based franchise for six games and, under him, the Kerala Blasters have so far managed to pick up just one win this season. It hasn’t gone according to plan for the team who reached last season’s final. They have already suffered four defeats and now sit rock bottom on the table with just 4 points.

The club relieved the English coach of his duties with immediate effect following a mutual decision. Although it may have been a short stint with the Blasters, the fans and the club members thanked the former Palace coach for his efforts and contribution during the association. Another Englishman Trevor Morgan is set to succeed his compatriot at the club and will in be in charge for the remaining games this season.

The franchise released a statement when they reached a decision.

“Kerala Blasters announced that Peter Taylor has left the club with immediate effect following a mutual decision. Kerala Blasters thanks Peter for his efforts and contribution during the association.

“Trevor Morgan will presently assume the responsibilities of Kerala Blasters team.

Taylor is a well-respected man in England and has coached a number of English teams including Hull City, Crystal Palace and Leicester City during his career. In November 2000, he was appointed the caretaker manager of England national team for one match against Italy, where he handed David Beckham the captain’s armband for the first time.

At the club level, the former Hull City manager was responsible for the side’s promotion to Football League One in 2004/05 season and in the following year it was a remarkable achievement went he led the team to Football League Championship promotion. It was the first appearance in the division since 1990/91 season when they finished 18th in the league.
