ISL 2016: Our focus is on the next match, says Delhi Dynamos manager Gianluca Zambrotta

Zambrotta pointed out that his team still has not qualified for the semis and his only focus is on the next match

Delhi Dynamos put one step in the play-offs of the ISL 2016 after thumping a struggling FC Goa side 5-1 on Sunday. A hattrick from Marcelinho and a brace from Richard Gadze sealed the game for the Lions and helped the team move closer to the semi-finals.

It was FC Goa who took the lead through Fulganco Cardozo in the first half, but Marcelinho soon equalised for Zambrotta's side in the same half. The Italian expressed his discontent with the first half scoreline of 1-1. However, he praised the team's performance in the second half in which they scored four goals.

“I didn’t like the game today in the first half as we weren’t able to change the rhythm and I was not happy about that. I was very happy about the second half as we maintained a very good rhythm, good pressure and possession to play well,” Zambrotta said.

Delhi might be one step closer to making it to the play-offs, but the World Cup winner was not ready to get carried away. He pointed out that his team still has not qualified for the semis and his only focus is on the next match.

“Unfortunately, we haven’t reached the semi-finals as yet. So we have to focus on our next game, which is against a very difficult team, and for this reason it’s very important to plan step by step,” the Italian legend said.

The 38-year later that he hasn't planned anything for his team's next match against NorthEast United.

“We have a trip tomorrow and we have two days for the next game and we need to look at our players’ conditions and recovery and as of now I haven’t planned anything tactical for the match against NorthEast," the former AC Milan player said.

The current top scorer of the 2016 ISL, who accompanied Zambrotta for the press conference, expressed his happiness and also said that he hopes that the team keeps on winning.

“I’m very happy in the position I play and it is very important for me that the whole team plays together and works together. We work hard under the head coach and we hope to give good performances and win in the future,” the Brazilian attacker told the media.

The 29-year old expressed his delight in putting on a such an amazing performance and scoring a hattrick to the press. Marcelinho also spoke about his liking for the Goa manager and how happy he was to score in front of the legend.

"For me it’s really unbelievable. I’m very happy to score and help my team. I need to keep it going for my team first and then my fans. I’m a very big fan of Zico and I wish the best for him. He’s a very nice coach. He experiments to solve the problems for everyone. If he couldn’t fix the season he tried to solve the problems, so that the next season could be better," the Delhi Dynamos player told.
