Jose Mourinho ‘officially agreed’ over the decision to leave Real Madrid in the summer

Jose Mourinho’s long awaited fantasy return to the English Premier League seems one step closer after reports of his eminent departure from Real Madrid was officially agreed last year.

According to reports in Spain, Mourinho is said to have signed an agreement with Real in December last year to leave the Bernabeu at the end of season, making his intentions for an English comeback very clear.

His Madrid exit has been predicted for most of this season but he has been silent on his future plans. His subdued celebrations and restrained comments after knocking Manchester United out of the Champions League last week fuelled speculation that he was potentially bidding for successor of Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

Mourinho has also been linked with United’s neighbours Manchester City, PSG and, perhaps surprising, a second stint at Chelsea.

But talking to talkSPORT, former Chelsea assistant coach Ray Wilkins dashed the Blues fans’ hopes of the ‘Special One’ replacing Rafa Benitez: ‘I think Jose will be the next manager of Manchester United. I would give the Chelsea job to someone like [Brighton’s] Gus Poyet.’
