In their second pre-season friendly of the summer, Juventus needed penalties to overcome a rigid Inter Milan side after the score was tied 1-1 at full-time.

In a battle between two former Chelsea managers, Antonio Conte's Inter held Maurizio Sarri's Juventus for large parts of the game and they were arguably the better side over the course of the 90 minutes.

Having taken the lead through Matthijs de Ligt's early own-goal, Inter held their nerve and went on to dominate the first half as Juve's midfield had no answer to the likes of Stefano Sensi and Marcelo Brozovic, who dictated play in the centre of the park.

The Turin giants got better as the game progressed and they needed a bit of luck to level the score-line on the day. Having been awarded a free-kick just outside the box, Cristiano Ronaldo's sweetly struck shot landed up in the back of the net via an unfortunate deflection and Inter's resilience had finally been broken.

After the game ended all square at full-time, Gianluigi Buffon's penalty heroics sealed the game for the Bianconeri as they went on to win 4-3.

On that note, let's look at 3 players who impressed the most for the Old Lady.

#1 - Federico Bernardeschi

Federico Bernardeschi continued his stellar form in pre-season with a fantastic performance against rivals Inter.

The Italian's link-up play and trickery was of the highest order as he caused the Inter back-line a handful of problems.

Starting on the right flank, he was one of the bright sparks in an otherwise lacklustre outing for Juventus and his strong pre-season showing is sure to put him in contention for a place in Maurizio Sarri's best XI.

Bernardeschi lasted the entirety of the game and although he missed his spot-kick, it didn't come back to haunt him as Juve went on to win the and it could be argued that he was one of the best players on the pitch.

#2 - Merih Demiral

Merih Demiral's signing has been overshadowed by Juve's big money capture of Matthijs de Ligt. The Turkish International joined for a fee of €18 million this summer and although it initially looked like he could be loaned out, his performances in pre-season are sure going to make it a difficult decision for the coaching staff.

Demiral replaced fellow new signing de Ligt at the back in the second half and the bullish centre-half refused to be beaten, as he kept growing in stature throughout the game.

The towering defender kept Inter at bay and prevented every attack that came his way as Juve kept a clean sheet in the second half.

Added to his exemplary defensive performance, the 21-year-old put the icing on the cake in some style as he scored the winning spot-kick for Juve in the penalty shoot-out, helping them to a 4-3 win.

First impressions matter and in football, players tend to revel in their cult-hero status. Demiral has certainly made himself a hero with his heroics, as no game against Inter is considered a friendly for the Bianconeri faithful.

#3 - Adrien Rabiot

The Frenchman joined from Paris Saint Germain on a free transfer this summer and already looks like a shrewd capture for Juventus.

Having made his debut in Juve's previous encounter against Spurs, the midfielder put in an assured performance despite being on the wrong end of the result.

He was handed a start as Maurizio Sarri's men came up against Antonio Conte's Inter and the 24-year-old was one of few players who can take away positives from his performance.

Starting in a midfield trio alongside Blaise Matuidi and Miralem Pjanic, Rabiot did his reputation no harm as he combined his box-to-box ability with craft and elegance on the ball.

Although Juve were overrun in midfield by the likes of Marcelo Brozovic and Stefano Sensi, the Frenchman stood his ground and kept getting better as the game progressed.

Juve are stacked at the centre of the park but Rabiot's form in pre-season coupled with his versatility is sure to have impressed Maurizio Sarri and the former PSG man looks set to be a key player for the Bianconeri.
