Ronaldo would once again lead Juventus' charge against Parma

After the summer break, the 87th season of top tier football in Italy would kick-off with Juventus seeking to retain the league title for an unprecedented ninth consecutive season.

The Bianconerri would very much be a new-look side this season, having strengthened some key areas with the addition of Matthijs de Ligt, Aaron Ramsey, Adrian Rabiot, while club legend Gianluigi Buffon also returned from PSG.

Former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri returned to Italy to take charge of the Turin giants in place of Massimiliano Allegri. The 60-year-old would however not take charge of Juventus' first match, as he is currently undergoing treatment after he was diagnosed with pneumonia.

Juventus would travel to the Stadio Ennio Taddini to face Parma who impressed on their return to the top flight last season and finished the campaign in 14th place.

Ahead of the kickoff of their Serie A title defence, we shall be taking a look at suspensions, injury concerns, team news and likely starting lineups for Juventus.

Injury concerns

Juventus have understudy goalkeeper Mattia Perin out with a shoulder injury which he picked up in April and is expected to be out until November 24. Also on the treatment table is Croatian international Marko Pjaca who suffered a serious left knee injury while training during his loan spell with Fiorentina last season.

Aaron Ramsey had arrived Turin with a hamstring injury, but is back to fitness and could play a role in the game against Parma.

Suspension list

Juventus have no suspension concerns ahead of their Serie A opener.

Team News and expected lineup

Despite the absence of Maurizio Sarri, Juventus would have the services of his assistant Giovanni Martusciello, and the 48-year-old has the complement of a virtually complete squad to pick from.

At the back, Wojciech Szczesny is expected to keep his place between the sticks despite the return of club legend Buffon, while Alex Sandro would man the left flank of defence.

On the other flank, new boy Danilo would likely start over Mattia de Scigio, while Leonardo Bonucci and Georgio Chiellini could start at the heart of the defence, as new signing Mattijs de Ligt continues to adapt.

The midfield trio is expected to be pretty straightforward, with Miralem Pjanic, Blaise Matuidi and Adrien Rabiot controlling proceedings from the middle.

Upfront, marquee player Cristiano Ronaldo would likely be complemented by Douglas Costa and Gonzalo Higuain, although Paulo Dybala could also make a start at the expense of his compatriot.
