Video: Major Lazer's 'Lean On' parody released in support of Slum Soccer

India’s largest all-sports website, Sportskeeda along with Slum Soccer, wants to help spread awareness about the Indian team who are expected to take part at the Homeless World Cup in Amsterdam next month and have done so by the release of a parody video of the hit Major Lazer song ‘Lean On’ on Youtube.

Comedian Diptarka Ghosh is the star of the roughly-three-minute video, which shows him singing out banter-filled lines about the English Premier League while shaking a leg to the infectious beats of the moombahton track. Louis van Gaal, Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho and many more characters from the English league dance to the track as well, recreating similar moves to those used by Major Lazer and MØ in the original music video.

Sportskeeda and Slum Soccer have come together for this cause as both parties care deeply about underprivileged people and the current state of Indian football. They want the general public to join the movement so that the grass-roots system in the country can be improved while also making a real difference in the lives of thousands of these deprived people.

Having been a part of the Homeless World Cup family since 2007, the Indian team have competed in any tournaments around the world. In this year’s edition, they are ahead of traditional powerhouses Spain and Japan in the rankings, taking the 33rd position. Their past accolades include winning the Paris Community Cup in 2011 and the Santiago Futbol Calle in 2014.

They will compete with 63 other nations in the annual tournament, and Slum Soccer and Sportskeeda are trying to raise Rs 8 lakh on the crowd-funding website Ketto, to help send Team India to the Netherlands. The money raised will used to cover the cost of flights and visas for the squad of 20 players, which include 10 male and female players each.
