Messi and Suarez have been exceptional for Barca yet again

The duopoly of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo at the top of the La Liga goal-scoring charts since 2008-09 has finally come to an end thanks to Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan has been in absolutely stunning form all throughout the season scoring a whopping 40 goals in just 35 appearances. Add to that, he has provided 16 assists as well, in the process becoming the first player to top the goals and assists charts in a single La Liga campaign.

And now the Pichichi and Golden shoe winner has confessed that he never expected to replace Messi as the spearhead of Barcelona’s attack this season.

In an interview with Bein Sport, Suarez said, "I never imagined playing in this position because Leo was playing as the No.9, and I thought, 'where are they going to play me?'”

Suarez also revealed that him and Messi get along really well and have formed a true bond of friendship. Indeed, the MSN trio of Messi, Suarez and Neymar look to help each other out as they have had another spectacular season scoring an incredible 130 goals as well as assisting 63 more for the Catalan club.

"We get along very well, both on and off the park. "Sometimes it is hard to understand, because a striker is always angry when they’re not the main star, but here it does not happen like that.”

"There is nothing false or acted. It is a true friendship, where there is zero jealousy and where we get along well. "We advise each other and we are glad when things go well for each other,” the 29-year-old said.

Suarez went on to say what an honour it was to play day in and day out with who he believes to be the ‘best player in history’.

"For me, I tell my children I played with the best player in history and that is a privilege,” he said.

The Argentine of course, has been leading the pack for the Blaugrana for a number of years now having gained legendary status in the process. He has gone on to win an unprecedented 5 ballon d’Ors and continues to remain a focal point in attack and arguably the most important Barcelona player.

By taking a step back and assisting Suarez in scoring the goals, Messi has evolved into more of a creative attacker and Barcelona are reaping the rewards by this change as they have already clinched the La Liga title once again and are on course for the Copa Del Rey, facing Sevilla in the final on Sunday.

Cules all over the world will be hoping this partnership can function for years to come and bring more laurels to their club.
