It is the news that you have been waiting for. After weeks of speculations, Manchester United are ultimately set to break the world record fee for a defender. Liverpool made Virgil van Dijk the costliest defender in the world in January 2018, when the Merseyside club paid £75m for his transfer. However it seems that the Dutchman's reign at the top will last only a year and a half.

The Telegraph reports that Manchester United have agreed a deal with Leicester City for the transfer of Harry Maguire. The two clubs were locked in a showdown for ages, with the Foxes refusing to budge from their £90m valuation of the Englishman. The Red Devils already had a £70m deal rejected by Leicester and the transfer saga was stretching a little too long for comfort. However, United have now reached a breakthrough and are finally willing to pay an exorbitant amount for Harry Maguire. The transfer is likely to include add on fees in bonuses.

Maguire was believed to be getting increasingly frustrated at the slow pace of negotiations, because he had his heart set on a move to Old Trafford. The Englishman can now breathe a sign of relief and so can the millions of United fans all over the world.

The Red Devils had conceded 54 goals in the league last season, the most they had let in since the start of the Premier League era. A defensive reinforcement was the priority of the summer, and Harry Maguire was Solskjaer's number one target. With the Englishman finally set to join his squad, the Norwegian will be a happy man now.

#4 Solskjaer reveals United are working on more signings

In an interview with Sky Sports, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed that United were still working on a few more target. The Red Devils have already signed Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James this summer, while Harry Maguire is all set to join United as well. The Red Devils are linked with a move for Sporting Lisbon's Bruno Fernandes, while the club is also working with Juventus to complete a swap deal involving wantaway striker Romelu Lukaku and Argentinean ace Paulo Dybala.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, the United manager admitted that the nature of the current transfer market makes it very difficult to complete deals. But he remains hopeful of getting his preferred players in before the start of the season.

We're looking good. Of course we've been working on a few cases over the summer. It's never easy.
The club has been very good and the market is very hard.
We're trying to get to the start of the season with the squad that we want.

#3 United continue negotiations with Paulo Dybala

Manchester United are inching closer to the deal of the summer, after agreeing to swap forgotten striker Romelu Lukaku with Juventus sensation Paulo Dybala. The Belgian had dropped down the pecking order since Solskjaer's appointment and it was clear that he was no longer a part of the Norwegian's plans. Lukaku was looking for a move away from Old Trafford all summer, with Inter Milan courting him, but failing to match United's valuation of the player.

Juventus had taken advantage of the situation and offered a swap deal involving Paulo Dybala, who had been living under the shadows of Cristiano Ronaldo since the Portuguese arrived at Turin last season. Dybala's consent was all that was left for the deal to materialize.

Acclaimed Italian Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio revealed that negotiations between the club and the player are ongoing after a breakthrough could not be reached on Thursday. Meanwhile, it is also being reported that Dybala will not resume practice with the Serie A champions until 5th August, which could be another sign that a transfer is imminent in the next couple of days.

Solskjaer's search for a new midfielder this season had taken him to Sporting Lisbon. The Norwegian had identified Bruno Fernandes as the ideal candidate for his midfield revamp for the upcoming season. United had been tracking the player all summer and there have been multiple reports that a deal is very close to completion. However, the transfer saga of Bruno Fernandes has taken an interesting twist of late, thanks to Tottenham Hotspurs.

The Telegraph reports that Spurs have begun negotiations with the player's representatives and are very interested in going head to head with United for his services. Tottenham had been previously interested in Giovani Lo Celso of Real Betis, but after failing to secure his signature, have turned their attentions to the Portuguese.

Representatives of the London club have already flown to Portugal to try and sort out a deal. However, the race to sign Bruno Fernandes is still very much open and United could still land the player provided they submit a bid of their own.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Jose Mourinho revealed that his time at the helm of Manchester United was tougher than it looked. He even went on to say that he felt undervalued even after winning Silverware in his very first season.

I can just say that the Manchester United time was not an easy time. I always felt that to win the Europa League was fantastic and it didn't look like it was, the way people approach it.
To finish second was even more than that [success], so probably I was feeling a little bit like: 'Wow, I'm working well, I'm giving everything and I'm not getting what I think that deserves'.

The Portuguese, though, remains optimistic about his next project:,

The only thing I can promise you is that when I have the next club, the next project, I will be so, so happy that I will walk into that press conference with a big smile. That I can promise.
