Alexis Sanchez failed to make an impact for Manchester United during his one-and-a-half seasons with the club.

What's the story?

In an interview with BBC's Simon Stone after sealing a move to Inter Milan, Alexis Sanchez cited inconsistent game time as the reason behind his failed stint with Manchester United. The former Arsenal attacker also clarified that he does not regret moving to Old Trafford.

In case you missed it...

Alexis Sanchez earned a mega-money contract at Manchester United after sealing his move away from Arsenal, becoming the Premier League's highest-paid player.

However, the Chilean failed to make any substantial impact for the Red Devils, managing to score just three league goals during his 18 months at the club.

Owing to incessant injury issues, Sanchez was reduced to a substitute role under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. In a bid to regain regular playing time, the former Udinese attacker sealed a move back to Italy, this time with Inter Milan on a year loan deal.

The heart of the matter

Speaking about his move to Manchester United from Arsenal, Alexis Sanchez said:

"I'm very happy I went to Manchester United,"
"I've always said that. It's the club that's won the most in England."
"When I went to Arsenal it was fantastic - I was happy there - but United were growing at the time, they were buying players to win something."
"I wanted to join them and win everything. I don't regret going there."

When quizzed upon a major gulf in his performances for Manchester United and the Chile national team, the 30-year-old explained by saying:

"I think that I'm happy when I play for my national team,"
"I was happy at Manchester United too, but I've always said to my friends: I want to play."
"If they would let me play I'll do my best. Sometimes I'd play 60 minutes then I wouldn't play the next game - and I didn't know why."

What's next?

After securing a temporary move away from Man United to Internazionale, Alexis Sanchez was an unused sub in Nerazzurri's 2-1 win away to Cagliari. The Chilean is set to reunite with his international teammates for a friendly against Argentina.

Meanwhile, Sanchez's primary club, Manchester United, host Leicester City at Old Trafford when the international break ends on September 14.
