Manchester United are one of the most valuable clubs in the world

Manchester United have announced record profits for the first quarter. United have announced a record quarterly revenue of £123.4m for the three months ending March 31. The figure is a 29.9% improvement on last year’s figures and it is mainly down to the many profitable commercial deals Manchester United have across the world.

The Red Devils secured five sponsorships in the first quarter alone including global deals with Gulf Oil International and 20th Century Fox. The club believes the annual revenue will be somewhere around £500m or £510 million, even though they might not have any Champions League football next season.

A statement from United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward said: "The conclusion to this year's season demonstrates once again why the Premier League is the most popular league in the most popular sport.

"As we reflect on our season, we are delighted by the emergence of yet another crop of exciting young players that demonstrate once again our terrific track record of youth development.

"We are looking forward to the FA Cup final on May 21 and hopefully winning this special trophy for a record-equalling 12th time."

Manchester United will be hoping for Swansea to do them a favour against Manchester City as only a Manchester City defeat will open the doors for the Red Devils to finish 4th and qualify for the Champions League.

Real Madrid top Forbes’ most valuable list

Spanish football giants Real Madrid retained top spot on a list of the world's most valuable football teams for a fourth consecutive year, according to a Forbes poll released on Wednesday.

The value of the 10-time European champions rose 12 percent to $3.6 billion, making them the world's second most valuable sports team, surpassed only by the National Football League's Dallas Cowboys ($4 billion), Forbes said in a statement.

Barcelona were second on the list with a value of $3.5 billion, also up 12 percent from last year. Manchester United ($3.3 billion), Bayern Munich ($2.7 billion) and Arsenal ($2 billion) rounded out the top five.

According to Forbes, the 20 most valuable football teams are worth an average of $1.44 billion, a 24 percent jump from last year that was driven by new lucrative television deals.

Manchester United might not be having the best time on the pitch, but their popularity worldwide has ensured that United will remain a global football power for the foreseeable future.
