#4 United preparing late bid for Christian Eriksen

As the Paulo Dybala move fell to pieces, the Red Devils proceeded to assess other options for the midfield attacking position. United have been linked to both Bruno Fernandes of Sporting Lisbon and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic of Lazio, however, the club has not shown any inclinations to sign either of them so far this summer. But it is also clear that the club needs at least one more midfielder before the start of the new season. And the news we bring now will surely excite United fans.

The Telegraph reports that Manchester United are interested in Christian Eriksen and are seriously considering a late move for the Danish midfielder. It is understood that United's interest does not depend on Paul Pogba's future because the club believe that the two superstars can easily fit into the same team.

The Red Devils are yet to replace Ander Herrera who left for PSG at the start of the summer on a free transfer. Spurs, on the other hand, are willing to let Eriksen leave, with the Dane entering the final year of his contract. However, there has not been direct contact between the two clubs so far.

Eriksen had previously stated a desire for a new challenge ahead of the new season and there has also been contact with Real Madrid regarding a potential move. However, Zinedine Zidane's preference for Paul Pogba meant that those interests were nipped in the bud.

The London club are also ready to slash their asking price for the Denmark playmaker. Last season, Spurs quoted an asking price of £130m for Eriksen, but it is believed that he could move for far less this summer. Tottenham are also working hard to secure one of Bruno Fernandes and Giovani Lo Celso before the transfer window closes this Thursday, which could be another indication that Eriksen could leave.

Solskjaer has affirmed that Paul Pogba would remain a United player next season and is welcome to the idea of having both Eriksen and Pogba in his starting XI.

#3 Harry Maguire gets advice from Virgil van Dijk

Harry Maguire has received advice from the second-costliest defender in the world, Virgil van Dijk after the Englishman completed his move to United. Maguire joined the Red Devils for £80m, which effectively made him the costliest defender in the world. With such an exorbitant amount paid for his services, there's always going to be a pressure to perform consistently, something that Virgil van Dijk is quite familiar with. The Dutchman faced a similar situation just over a year back and has lent a few words of advice for Maguire, starting out with a warning:

The price comes with pressure but it doesn't change too much because you always have pressure at big clubs like Man United.
It's not easy to completely shut off all the pressure. Quite a lot of things are more important than playing football. You need to enjoy it but the pressure will always be there.

However, van Dijk did offer his advice on how to cope with the situation.

Just focus on doing what you love to do and play your best game. Get your qualities out on the pitch, enjoy your game and don't think about the other things.
If opponents have a go during the game because you cost that much, what can you do? I'm not listening to them. It does not change anything in my head.

#2 Romelu Lukaku set to stay at Belgium until his future is sorted

Romelu Lukaku is growing increasingly frustrated with his failure to secure a move away from Old Trafford

Romelu Lukaku's horrible summer has shown no signs of a fairy tale ending so far. The Belgian has been desperate for a move out of Old Trafford ever since it was clear that he was no longer the first choice striker under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's system.

Both Inter Milan and Juventus have been vying for his signature, however, nothing concrete has materialized so far. In such a scenario, Lukaku has been training with his former club Anderlecht this week. That has added further fuel to the rumours, however, it is believed that Lukaku has United's consent to train in Belgium.

Sky Sports report that the Belgian will continue to train in his home country until there is clarity regarding his immediate future. Lukaku has not played a single minute in United's preseason this summer and it is understood that the player is determined to leave Old Trafford before the start of the season. However, time is running out for the United No. 9.

#1 Rio Ferdinand full of praise for Harry Maguire

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has lent his support to new United signing Harry Maguire and has tried to help him deal with the burdens of becoming the costliest defender in the world.

Ferdinand joined United in June 2002 for £30m, which, at that period, made him the costliest defender in the world. It was a tag that brought added pressure to the table, but the former England International was a huge success at Old Trafford. He was a part of a formidable partnership with Nemanja Vidic at the back, which at one point of time, was the best in the world.

In a recent Instagram post, Rio has praised his countryman and encouraged him to embrace life at United. Rio remembered his own time at Old Trafford and drew comparisons between the situation then and now. He also appeared pleased to lend his famous No.5 shirt to the former Leicester City defender, whom he described as "a leader of men"

We hope the costliest defender in the world can justify the faith shown in him by his countryman.
