It has been a tough summer for Manchester United so far. The Red Devils have been linked with every other player in the planet, but have failed to achieve all their targets except one. That solitary signing, Daniel James from Swansea, has not been enough to get the supporters excited. There is a strange nervousness about United right now; Solskjaer had reiterated his desire, time and again, to complete all the transfer business by the end of June. That looks highly unlikely, as United seem to be priced out of every negotiation this summer. And one man who knows a lot about the club reveals why things have been so quiet so far.

Manchester United legend Gary Neville revealed in an interview to Sky Sports why his former club have struggled in the transfer market so far. The former United right-back believes that United are in the back foot this summer because everyone knows that they desperately need to sign players. As such, all parties are trying to squeeze the last penny out in negotiations.

It's difficult to do business, it's not easy. Everyone knows Manchester United want players and price tags will go up.
Players don't just jump to sign for any club - they do their homework and get their agents to get to work. They probably have 50 meetings before they sign for a club nowadays.
Manchester United will be in the pit with the rest of the sharks looking for the big signings. It's difficult for all clubs, they all want the same players.

Neville also reveals that it is important that United clear up the deadwood as well as bring new players in.

Manchester United have got a big job to do in order to get a squad right for a championship challenge. Hopefully that'll start this summer but it's not just bringing players in, it's about getting some out.

#4 United to meet Crystal Palace to speed up Wan-Bissaka deal

United are looking to speed up negotiations to bring Wan Bissaka to Old Trafford
United are looking to speed up negotiations to bring Wan Bissaka to Old Trafford

The Guardian reports that Manchester United were scheduled to meet Crystal Palace on Monday evening to chalk out a deal and finalize the last details of the deal that has been lingering for longer than usual.

United have been hopeful of sealing a deal for the Englishman, even though their initial bids were rejected by Palace, because those were deemed less than the club's evaluation of their star player. Palace are holding out for £50m, while none of United's two offers have met that value upfront. They also want the Red Devils to remove a sell on clause that was inserted in Wilfred Zaha's contract.

United's recent bid was reportedly of around £35m, with another £15m in bonuses and performance-related incentives included. But Palace found a lot of those performance-related incentives unrealistic and want the amount in full. Ed Woodward is expected to meet Palace Chairman Steve Parish to speed up negotiations, while Wan-Bissaka is himself keen on the move. A deal could be finalized this week.

#3 Romelu Lukaku transfer depends on the Icardi situation at Milan

Lukaku's impending move to Inter Milan has been put on hold.
Lukaku's impending move to Inter Milan has been put on hold.

Romelu Lukaku's impending transfer to Inter Milan depends on the future of Mauro Icardi, according to the Telegraph's James Ducker. The Belgian already has one foot out of the club, with Inter Milan his most probable destination, but the transfer has been hanging on a balance for quite some time now.

Manchester United are looking to recoup all of the £75m they paid for the Belgian in 2017. The Red Devils want around £80m to let go of their striker. Inter, on the other hand, do not have the money to finance such a deal and will have to offload Mauro Icardi to fund Lukaku's transfer. But it is easier said than done, as there are very few suitors for the Argentinean striker who has been at daggers drawn with the Serie A side.

Lukaku's situation at United is also complicated, as he does not fit into Solskjaer's plans for next season. The Belgian's future, as such, is hard to predict right now.

#2 Sir Alex Ferguson reveals his one big regret at Manchester United

Sir Alex recently revealed his biggest regret at Manchester United.
Sir Alex recently revealed his biggest regret at Manchester United.

In a recent interview to MUTV, Sir Alex Ferguson revealed his one regret during his career as Manchester United boss.

Manchester United had reached the final of the 2008 UEFA Champions League and were scheduled to play Chelsea in Moscow. And it is one team selection decision that haunts the legendary scot to this day.

"To win the European Cup is fantastic. It was a really great bunch of players with a great attitude about them and a good, strong squad.
"My problem in the 2008 final, maybe I even regret it to this day, was I left Ji-sung Park out completely in the final.
"He'd played such a great role and that's the problem when you get to these finals.
"That's why we try hard at these European seminars with the coaches to try to get 11 subs in the final.
"You've got four or five sitting in the stand who made fantastic contributions in getting there."

The South Korean did go on to feature in both 2009 and 2011 UEFA Champions League finals, but unfortunately, United lost both games.

#1 Chilean superstar urged to look for regular first-team football

Sanchez has been urged to look for first-team football.
Sanchez has been urged to look for first-team football.

Chilean legend Ivan Zamorano believes that Alexis Sanchez needs regular first-team football - either at United or elsewhere. The former Barcelona player struggled to cope with life at Old Trafford since making the switch from Arsenal in January 2018. Sanchez was hit with a lack of form and recurring injuries and looked like a shadow of the player who had thrived at Arsenal.

However, the Chilean has been in fine form for his country at the Copa America so far, scoring twice already. One man who believes that Sanchez needs to get regular first-team action to flourish is former Chilean footballer and a legend of the game, Ivan Zamorano:

"What's best for [Sanchez] is to play - wherever he can, be it at Manchester United or any other team.
"The important thing is for him to be constantly competing. I talk from my experience. Sometimes when you're abroad and you're not playing, it is hard to regain the level.
"We've seen it. Alexis hasn't played in Manchester for a long time, but the second he puts on the Chilean shirt, he's different. That's what we like."
