#5 United turn down £90m cash plus player deal for Pogba

Paul Pogba's imminent departure from Old Trafford has been hogging the limelight for quite sometime now. The Frenchman has reiterated his desire to leave United in an interview given in Japan and his agent, Mino Raiola has publicly backed those feelings.

Both Juventus and Real Madrid are apparently looking to secure the services of the Frenchman, and both clubs are of interest to Pogba. While a return to Juventus would mean going back to his old hunting ground, Zidane's presence at Real Madrid is an enticing factor. However, getting him away from Old Trafford does not look easy, especially since United have put a hefty price tag on their asset and are unwilling to let him go for cheap.

It was constantly revealed that United had turned down player plus cash deals from both clubs, but recent reports suggest that the Red Devils were tested with a gigantic offer from Real Madrid.

Football consultant Ian McGarry has revealed that United have turned down a mammoth £90m cash plus midfielder Dani Ceballos. The main reason for the rejection is that United are holding out for a cash only deal and McGarry says that it is to generate more funds to invest in the transfer market.

I was told that Madrid did make an initial offer last Thursday, which was of €100m [£90m] plus Dani Ceballos - who has been starring for Spain’s Under-21s in their European Under-21 championship campaign.
However, United turned that down flat and said that they were only interested in cash.
That’s clearly a signal that they do want to reinvest money rather than take any players as a makeweight.

If Pogba does leave the club this summer, United will have to invest heavily in the market to replace him, which is why a cash-only deal certainly makes more sense.

#4 United permitted to speak to Mario Lemina

Only yesterday, we revealed that United were interested in Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina. Arsenal and PSG were also monitoring the situation, but it looks like the Red Devils have stolen a march on the competition.

The Times reports that Manchester United have been granted permission to talk to the 25-year-old. The Gabonese midfielder himself is looking for to a move away from Southampton and has expressed his desire to play elsewhere.

In an interview with France Football, Lemina had this to say

I am physically preparing myself at the training centre, with a few other players including Charlie Austin and Jordy Clasie.
I did not accompany the team in training in agreement with the coach. He wants to build his group with the players who want to stay at the club, so he left me out.
As early as last year, I had set my conditions: I wanted to go elsewhere this summer.
We had agreed with the sports director. The injury arrived late December, it slowed me down, it’s a shame, but I do not want to go further with Southampton.

Despite missing a large part of last season due to injury, Lemina is hopefully of securing a transfer this summer. Question is, will United risk spending on an injury-prone player?

#3 Lindelof's agent hints at Barcelona interest

Barcelona are reportedly interested in Lindelof
Barcelona are reportedly interested in Lindelof

Manchester United's have been desperately trying to add a world-class defender to their squad this summer, but their efforts failed to bear fruit so far. The Red Devils were trying to find the perfect defensive partner for Victor Lindelof, but it now seems that the future of the Swiss International is uncertain.

The Telegraph quotes the player's agent, Hasan Cetinkaya's statement given to Mundo Deportivo, where he hints at Barcelona's interest in his client but also affirms that United will decide Lindelof's future.

Lindelof is in the orbit of a great European club but leaving United depends on the English club.

The Swiss International came into his own last season and has been fabulous since Solskjaer took over. United are currently interested in signing Leicester City's Harry Maguire as a defensive partner for Lindelof but have been deterred by the player's asking price. Solskjaer is reportedly willing to let Darmian and Rojo leave this summer, but Lindelof is firmly part of his plans.

Solskjaer has hinted that United cannot be pressured into selling Paul Pogba. The Frenchman and his agent, Mino Raiola, have been pretty vocal about a possible departure, but Solskjaer insists that Manchester United "do not sell players". The Norwegian also revealed that United had not received any bids for any of their players.

As far as I am aware, up until now we don't have any bids for our players. Paul and most of our players have long contracts, we are Man United, we don't have to sell players.

Solskjaer did go on to praise Pogba, saying that the Frenchman has behaved impeccably so far in training.

Paul's never been a concern for me. When he’s on the pitch he's working hard, he’s a true professional, he’s a proud boy, same answer again, I can't be sitting here talking about Paul all the time and what agents are saying. We've got a few years left on his contract and he's been fantastic when he’s come back in training.
He's a top, top bloke, he’s a great professional, he has never been any problem, he has got a heart of gold.

In an interview to Stretty News, Rafael da Silva, the former United full back, looked back at his time at United and it was clear that the Brazilian was still a Red Devil at heart. When asked to describe United, he had this to say:

Firstly, I would describe Manchester United as a home. Manchester United was my home and it’s still my home because of how the fans still talk about me.
It’s a very, very big club and before you go you must know that it’s one of the biggest clubs in the world and they are going to help you.

Rafael also provided some quick advice for new boy Aaron Wan-Bissaka

I have heard a lot of good things about him. From him – being a young right-back joining Manchester United – I just say give everything.
He must play with confidence because he is playing with the best club in the world. Do you best but remember you must also enjoy playing for the best club in the world, to play football with love and passion.
I heard he has passion which is very important.
