#5 Solskjaer reveals Pogba is a candidate for new United Captain

Pogba is one of the contenders for the next Manchester United Captain, says Solskjaer

The Paul Pogba saga has been one of the biggest talking points of the summer. The Frenchman was rumoured to be wanting a move away as soon as the season ended, but the world of football was shocked when he openly declared in Japan that he was looking for a "new challenge" this summer.

His agent, Mino Raiola, soon confirmed the desire to leave and it seemed that Solskjaer's intentions of building a team around Pogba were about to bite the dust. Juventus and Real Madrid were apparently vying for his signature, however, United's asking price for their star man has kept those interests at bay so far. Both clubs are offering player plus cash deals, which the Red Devils are not interested in.

Despite his statement, the player has travelled with the United squad to take part in pre-season. In the opening game against Perth Glory, Pogba played for the second 45 minutes and was easily the best player on the pitch. United won 2-0, as Pogba picked up an assist. During the game, the Frenchman's leadership qualities were also on display, especially as he urged new signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka to venture forward.

During the post-match press conference, Solskjaer was asked if Pogba would be considered for the new Skipper's position, which has been vacated after Antonio Valencia's departure. The Norwegian gave a positive response but refused to discuss further.

Yes. I don’t think that needs explaining. We’ll discuss that later on.

Solskjaer did go on to reveal that he was yet to arrive at a decision regarding his skipper for the next season, and also confirmed that Young would wear the armband till then.

We’ve got quite a few possibilities there and when the season starts we’ll announce it. Of course we’ll have a good assessment, see how pre-season goes. But, as you saw, Ashley will wear it when he’s playing until we decide on someone.

United could be tempting Pogba to stay by keeping him in contention for captaincy. But will it be enough? Only time will tell.

#4 United want Inter Milan to pay £90m for Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku might have missed the first game of pre-season due to a slight niggle, but his future at United is far from sorted. The Belgian is wanted by Inter Milan, but the Serie A side are yet to make an offer for the player. The Sporting Director of Inter, Piero Ausilio, met with United officials on Friday in London, however, the two clubs are yet to come to an agreement regarding the transfer fee involved.

Inter had proposed a 2-year loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the tenure, however, United are only interested in a permanent deal. The Telegraph reports that the Red Devils will demand at least £90m for the Belgian.

United are under no obligations to sell their star striker, despite the fact that he has dropped down the pecking order under Solskjaer. As such, the Premier League giants are determined not to let Lukaku leave the club for cheap.

#3 United still interested in Sean Longstaff

United still want to bring Longstaff to Old Trafford

We had revealed in this segment earlier that United were interested in Newcastle United youngster Sean Longstaff, but were deterred by the Magpies' valuation of the player. The Red Devils valued the player at £20m, but Newcastle want £50m for the young midfielder. It was one reason why a deal had fallen through, despite the fact that United, at one point, were confident of securing his signature. However, it looks like the Red Devils have not given up on their target yet.

Sky Sports reports that Manchester United are still quite interested in Sean Longstaff, despite the difference in valuation between the two clubs. However, the Red Devils are yet to submit a bid.

The player himself is interested in a move and is hopeful that the two clubs can agree a deal. However, if negotiations do not reach a fruitful conclusion, Longstaff will remain committed to his club. Newcastle United do not wish to sell the player, who is firmly a part of their future plans.

#2 Coutinho highly unlikely to join United according to agent

Coutinho's chances of joining a Liverpool rival is bleak, says his agent
Coutinho's chances of joining a Liverpool rival is bleak, says his agent

With the arrival of Antoine Griezmann at Nou Camp, one player whose future has come under scrutiny is Philippe Coutinho. The former Liverpool player has failed to stake a permanent claim in the first team since joining Barcelona a year and a half ago. Coutinho has been courted by a host of European giants, but there has not been any genuine approach for the player.

The player's agent, Kia Joorabchian, has revealed that he is getting a mixed response from Barcelona regarding his clients future. But despite the concerns, Joorabchian says that if a move back to the Premier League does materialize in the near future, it is very difficult for the Brazilian to join anyone other than Liverpool in the Premier League.

I think Liverpool lies very, very deeply in his heart. He was a big fan of them throughout the campaign [last season].
He was wishing for them to win the title and he has a very strong affinity there so I think it will be very difficult for him to go to a direct competitor of Liverpool from a personal standpoint.

#1 Bryan Robson gives advice to Paul Pogba

Manchester United Legend Bryan Robson has offered advice to Pogba
Manchester United Legend Bryan Robson has offered advice to Pogba

Former United skipper Bryan Robson has provided some advice for Paul Pogba amid all the turmoil he has been under this summer. He revealed that Pogba should just continue to give his all for Manchester United.

There's a lot of speculation in the media about Paul. He is a top player.
Get your head down, do your pre-season as well as you can - which, from what I've seen in the training sessions, he has done - and if something happens and the club want it to happen, or nothing happens then you've got to get on with it.

The United legend also revealed that players should not allow agents to dictate their futures.

I think players are influenced far too much by their agents - instead of making their own decisions.
Agents want players to move on because they make money. If a player is loyal to a club and stays there, the agent doesn't make as much money. I think that's a big influence not just at Manchester United, but all over the game.
