Manchester United want transfer guru Andrea Berta

Manchester United want to rope in Atletico Madrid sporting director, Andrea Berta, as revealed by his agent Dario Canovi. Canovi has also disclosed that United are not the only bigwigs who want to secure Berta’s services. The Italian transfer guru has been heavily linked with the Red Devils recently.

Canovi, whose distinguished client list includes the likes of Italian midfielder Thiago Motta, claims several clubs, including teams from the English Premier League are interested in signing Berta.

Hailing the sporting director as a ‘miracle worker’, Canovi told Calciomercato, "During these years with Atletico, he has always achieved good results and earned money. He finds important players without paying too much, he has performed miracles in Madrid.

"You have to believe me, the best clubs in the world want Berta, the big English teams, too, and not just Manchester United. All have noted his qualities.”

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone and Berta have formed an outstanding partnership, but that relationship may end soon as Simeone has recently hinted that a move to Inter is on the cards in future.

Italian media is linking Berta to a move to Inter as well and Canovi confirmed to Calciomercato that it could happen, ‘‘It would be an excellent idea, a plausible and logical scenario.

‘‘It won’t be easy, however, believe me: the best clubs in the world want Berta, the Premier League elite especially, not just Manchester United,’‘ he added.

‘‘He’s out of this world, he’s been obtaining results and making money at Atletico for years, he’s made miracles,” continued Canovi.

Responsible for key signings

Berta, who is largely acclaimed for the successful signings of goalkeeper Jan Oblak and defender Jose Gimenez at Atletico Madrid, has been strongly linked with the Red Devils since Jose Mourinho’s arrival at Old Trafford.

The transfer guru boasts of fruitful stints with Parma and Genoa as well. Ed Woodward is leaving no stone unturned to take United back to the top and the success they enjoyed during Sir Alex Ferguson’s tenure.

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc and former manager Jurgen Klopp, Sevilla director of football, Monchi and Emery Unai formed illustrious partnerships. They spent little money to bring players but their shrewd and smart transfers not only gave them success, but also saw them making profits owing to the sale of the stars they made.

Money is not a problem for United as was evidenced with the signings of the likes of Angel Di Maria, Juan Mata and Paul Pogba. Smart transfer – that’s the area United is looking to improve and Berta is the chosen one for them.
