Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has backed current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the man to lead the Red Devils into a brighter future.

Solskjaer was handed the reins of the club on a permanent basis in March this year following a string of impressive results as caretaker boss.

However, United have struggled this season and find themselves in the seventh spot with just 16 points from 12 games.

As a result, Solskjaer's future has been cast into doubt. With Mauricio Pochettino on the market following his sacking by Tottenham Hotspur earlier this week, the pressure is on the Norwegian to deliver results soon rather than later.

However, Rashford believes Solskjaer is the right man for the job as he has the club's best interests at heart.

The 22-year-old also explained that the Norwegian's presence was a driving force behind him signing a new contract in the summer.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Rashford said:

"There was no hesitation from me over signing a new contract. And it was the same for Ole as well - I could see where his head was at, where he wanted the club to be at and for me it was just a no-brainer.
"We were on the same page and wanted the same things for the club. Ole is a great guy and he has the club's interests at heart so there's not a better person for the job in my opinion."

Despite the Red Devils' poor start to the season, they are still in the mix for the Europa League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup and Rashford believes that only trophies and not Champions League qualification can constitute a successful season.

Following the international break, Manchester United will resume their Premier League campaign with a game against Sheffield United.
