Mizoram Super Cup: Chanmari FC defeat Dinthar FC 3-1

Chanmari FC became the champions of the inaugural Mizoram Football Association Super Cup as they defeated Dinthar FC 3-1 in anevenly contested match played at Lammual Stadium in Aizawl yesterday.

The MFA Super Cup from now on will be an annual football match contested by the reigning champions of the two main football club competitions, the Mizoram Premier League and the MFA Cup.

The champions of the MFA Cup Chanmari FC, who played an attractive brand of attacking football drew the first blood in the 29th minute, striker Lalchhanhima punished a school boy error committed by the experienced Dinthar defenders. However, the champions of the Mizoram Premier League Dinthar FC drew level on the 38th minute as former India junior international and Shillong Lajong FC Lalnunmawia scored after a shot by R. Laldanmawia rebounded off the post.

Chanmari played much better football in the second half, playing a fast paced ground ball with some lovely one touch counter attacking moves. It was in the 59th minute that Chanmari eventually scored again through Lalchhanhima. All hopes of Dinthar FC coming back into the match was halted by the sending off of their experienced defender Ronald Zothanzama, the former Lajong FC defender received a needless second yellow card and there by getting his marching order from the referee Lalfakzuala, who is the first national level football referee from the state.

Chanmari FC scored again on a swift counter attack, this time Lalruatfela, the former India Under-17 player scored a clever goal out witting the on rushing goalkeeper. In the end Chanmari FC defeated Dinthar FC 3-1 in the first-ever Mizoram Super Cup.

Chanmari FC became the first-ever champions of the MFA Super Cup; they are now treble champions after winning last season’s MFACup, this season’s Independence Day Cup and the first-ever MFA Super Cup.

The second edition of the Mizoram Premier League is scheduled to kick-off on Tuesday, October 8.
