Mohun Bagan signs Daniel Anthony Seaborne

Kolkata, Aug 4 (IANS) Mohun Bagan has roped in English central defender Daniel Anthony Seaborne for the 2016-17 season, the city soccer giants announced here on Thursday.

The 29-year-old, also called Danny Seaborne, will arrive in Kolkata on Friday from Glasgow, where he was playing for Patrick Thistle FC in the Scottish Premier League for the past two seasons.

Seaborne comes with a wealth of experience having also turned out in the English Championship and League One. Having started his career at Exeter City FC, he has played for reputed clubs like Coventry City, Bournemouth, Yeovil Town and Southampton.

He featured in 35 matches last season as captain of Patrick Thistle FC..

"We are delighted to announce the signing of Daniel Anthony Seaborne for 2016-17 season. He will add some much needed experience to the club back line and also carries a huge amount of experience while still being in the prime of his career," the club said in a statement.

On joining Mohun Bagan, Seaborne said: "I have always played in the United Kingdom. So this is a new experience for me. I have heard a lot about Indian football in the past one or two years so I am keen to come out there and bring in my experience to try and help the team.

"I have heard that the team has won the I-League and the Federation Cup in the past two seasons, so being serious contenders for tournaments and championships is what motivated me to make the move to India with Mohun Bagan. I cant wait to get started."

Head Coach Sanjoy Sen said: "It will be a worthy addition to the Mohun Bagan squad to have a player of his stature. The experience which he possesses will be a boost for our young team."
