Monaco’s Columbian forward Radamel Falcao (C) is lifted away from the pitch after being injured during the French Cup football match between Chasselay and Monaco on January 22, 2014.

Radamel Falcao, who was tipped to be a star at the upcoming World Cup in Brazil, might be in danger of missing out following a long term knee injury that he sustained in a match against Chasselay in the French Cup on Wednesday.

The Monaco striker opened the scoring with his 11th of the season in the 29th minute. However, things were soon going to turn sour for the Columbian as he entered the penalty box with purpose eleven minutes later, but was caught by opponent Soner Ertek in a ghastly looking challenge.

The injured strker motioned for medical help immediately, clutching his left knee in pain. He eventually had to be stretchered off, much to the horror of everyone present.

In an official club statement, Monaco said, “Following the injury suffered on Wednesday, Radamel Falcao has undergone medical examinations. It appears that the player has an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the left knee.

“A surgical procedure is necessary in the coming days. The doctors will make every effort to allow Radamel Falcao to recover as quickly as possible.”
