Official: Arsenal target Bernard signs for Shakhtar Donetsk for €25 million

Brazil Training Session

Shakhtar Donetsk’s official website has stated that Atlético Mineiro’s Brazilian winger Bernard has signed for the club for a fee of 25 million euros.

Bernard is considered one of the most promising players to come out of Brazil in the recent past, and was the target of many European giants, most notably Arsenal and their North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Bernard’s agent had earlier said that Porto were favourites to sign the 20-year-old, but it was Shakhtar who have managed to sign the player instead.

Bernard has made a total of 62 appearances for Mineiro since his debut in 2011, and has scored 12 goals for the Brazilian side.

He was also called up to the Brazil squad in 2011, and has made 5 appearances for the Selecao.

Bernard will join a huge Brazilian contingent at the Ukrainian club, as compatriots Fred, Maicon, and Taison, among many others, already play for the side.
