Match Day 13 of the Premier League saw some exciting match-ups with Manuel Pellegrini at West Ham facing his former side Manchester City. Liverpool were up against Watford while Tottenham Hotspur took on Chelsea at Wembley.
Here we take a look at five takeaways from Match Day 13 of the Premier League:
1. Manchester City continue stellar run against West Ham:
At this point after 13 rounds of Premier League matches, Manchester City are definitely the favourites once again this season. Last season's champions have already scored 40 goals this season at a rate of more than 3 goals per game and are well on track to overtake their 100 goal record last season.
David Silva, Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane's first-half goals ensured that West Ham never had a chance against the champions.
Sane added a late second-half goal as City had a comfortable 4-0 victory against West Ham. Up next for City is a crunch Champions League match away at Lyon to secure their place in the knockout rounds.
2. Liverpool remain unbeaten following Watford victory:
Liverpool continued their unbeaten run in the Premier League with a win over Watford.
The first half performance from both teams did not yield any goals from both sides, but Watford did manage to put Liverpool under difficult situations. For Liverpool, the usual suspects, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, all had their efforts saved by Ben Foster.
Salah's goal in the 67th minute was followed by a brilliant free kick from Alexander-Arnold doubled Liverpool's lead. Firmino combined beautifully with Robertson and Wijnaldum to add the third.
Watford, following this loss are on 20 points in ninth place, while Liverpool on 33, just two points behind leaders City. Up next for Liverpool is a difficult Champions League game away against Paris Saint Germain.
3. Chelsea slip as Tottenham close gap on table-toppers:
While Manchester City and Liverpool managed to keep their unbeaten runs going, Chelsea were handed their first defeat of the season away at Wembley against Tottenham.
Tottenham applied great pressure on Chelsea in the early stages of the game as Maurizio Sarri's side started on a slower momentum. Dele Alli and Harry Kane scored in the first half to give Tottenham a two-goal advantage.
Son, with a brilliant individual effort, made it 3-0 for Spurs. Giroud did manage to pull one back for Chelsea, but in the end, it was too late for Sarri's men
Chelsea take on PAOK next in the Europa League, currently sitting in the fourth spot with 28 points, two points behind Tottenham. An important match for Tottenham is up next at the Wembley against Inter to keep their hopes alive for making the knockout stages of the Champions League.
4. Arsenal defeat Bournemouth to maintain Top 5 spot:
Arsenal managed to clinch a narrow win over Bournemouth to retain their top 5 spot, five points clear of Everton.
A Jefferson Lerma own goal gave Arsenal a lucky lead over the hosts. Joshua King equalised for Bournemouth before halftime to finish a very even first half performance from both teams.
Arsenal needed a strike from Aubameyang in the second half to secure their fourth away win of the season against a resilient Bournemouth side. Unai Emery has installed a sense of security for Arsenal at least in terms of consistency but it would be a challenge to keep the same performance throughout the season
Up next for Arsenal is a trip away to Vorksla in the Europa League.
5. Lacklustre Manchester United held at home to Crystal Palace:
Manchester United have had their share of divisive performances throughout the season, but their performance against Crystal Palace was truly a demonstration of their lacklustre season.
The match was supposed to be a routine victory for United against a struggling Crystal Palace side. Both sides had goals ruled out for offsides, with the substitutes Fellaini, Alexis and Rashford unable to make an impact in terms of goals.
At this stage, United are already 14 points behind leaders City and six points off of fifth place Arsenal. Jose Mourinho's comments on individual players aside, this United side needs to turn things around fast if they hope to play in the Champions League next season.
Up next for United is a home match against Young Boys in the Champions League where a win would ensure their passage to the next round.
