The Premier League is back and so are the drama, amazing goals and shock results that come along with it.

There have already been many significant moments at the start of the league, and there were two results that were expected but also significant - Manchester City's 5-0 thumping of West Ham and Liverpool's 4-1 win over Norwich.

These two results sent out a message to the rest of the teams in the league. Liverpool and Man City have asserted that they are the top dogs, and will probably remain so for a few years to come.

Here is a look at the other significant take-aways from the opening weekend:

Chelsea probably regret the David Luiz sale

The transfer deadline day saw David Luiz make a shock move to Chelsea’s London rivals Arsenal for a fee of £8 million.

Many believe that the Brazilian was Chelsea’s best defender, having won trophies such as the Premier League and FA Cup. Despite that, Frank Lampard decided to let Luiz go; in the process he opened up the possibility of simultaneously weakening Chelsea and strengthening Arsenal.

That was proved on Sunday as Chelsea were torn apart by Manchester United, losing 4-0. The lack of defensive leadership was clear as day, with Luiz’s replacement Kurt Zouma giving away a penalty to allow Marcus Rashford the chance to put United in the lead.

Chelsea’s season could well be shaped by their poor transfer dealings and their lack of defensive cover.

Brighton and Graham Potter start on the right foot

When the former Swansea manager Graham Potter took on the job at Brighton, many were quick to criticize him for his lack of experience.

However, even though he was heavily slated, Potter has since brought in the likes of Neal Maupay from Brentford and kept hold of the Seagull's top scorer from last season, Glenn Murray.

Furthermore, Brighton put three past Watford to register a superb opening day victory in which new signing Maupay scored. Potter has clearly started off on the right foot with his new team.

United’s trust in youth is starting to pay off

Many people questioned Manchester United’s faith in their young players ahead of their opening day match against fellow top 4 challengers, Chelsea.

But the 4-0 win could potentially herald a new beginning for United, with the likes of Daniel James and Marcus Rashford at the forefront of their young team.

The win also highlighted United’s new playing style based on pressing, which is used by other teams such as Liverpool who have found plenty of success with it.
