After a bad end to last season which resulted in a thrashing by Chelsea in the UEFA Europa League final, Arsenal's misfortunes have continued into the start of the season. Fans have been quick to criticise Unai Emery for what can only be called a poor style of play and the mistreatment of a few players.

His questionable selection of Granit Xhaka as captain along with him playing at the holding midfield role ahead of fan-favourite Lucas Torriera has irked a majority of the fan base. Injuries to key players like summer signing left-back Kieran Tierney, right-back Hector Bellerin and highly-rated young centre-back Rob Holding have not helped Emery's cause.

Former Chelsea and Manchester United boss Jose Moruinho has been linked with a move back to London as uncertainity hangs over Emery. His desire and motivation for winning major trophies for three of the traditional big six sides has him favoring the move which has plenty of fans divided. Here are four reasons why Mourinho is not the right man for Arsenal.

#4: Declining Manager

Mourinho is not the same manager he was when he first came to the Premier League.
Mourinho is not the same manager he was when he first came to the Premier League.

It has become quite evident that Jose Mourinho is declining as a manager. His last Premier League title was in 2015 during his second stint with Chelsea. Since then he has been sacked at Chelsea, managed United to sixth-place and second-place finishes, before subsequently being asked to leave Manchester after winning only seven of their 17 league matches.

His final season at Chelsea was an absolute disaster, completely losing the dressing room and similar problems appeared at United. His sour relationship with club-record signing Paul Pogba was always a talking point at his press conferences. His style of management and tactics could be considered outdated and it is becoming increasingly obvious that pragmatic managers like him have trouble thriving at top clubs, particularly in the Premier League.

#3: Past relationship with Arsenal and Arsene Wenger

The Wenger-Mourinho rivalry is a hurdle that many Gooners will struggle getting over.
The Wenger-Mourinho rivalry is a hurdle that many Gooners will struggle getting over.

During Arsene Wenger's tenure, the clashes which he had with Mourinho will be forever remembered by all Arsenal fans. From being shoved and pushed by Wenger during a game while his time at Stamford Bridge to being called a 'specialist in failure' by Mourinho, fans surely have nasty memories of 'The Special One'.

However, this has certainly not stopped fans from welcoming the move. This reaction is mainly due to the frustration fans have had from Emery. Although Jose Mourinho wouldn't mind the job, some of the Arsenal faithful are probably bound to riot if this does happen. Fans have resented Mourinho and some might even call him their most hated manager ever. It really is mind-boggling that some of these fans now want him to represent their club.

#2: Stifling the development of young players

Throughout Mourinho's career, he has been known to use academy players sporadically and in general fails to develop them while they are still young and learning. There is absolutely no doubt that that he has the ability to extract the best out of world-class players but Arsenal currently don't have a cache of such players at the moment.

While the likes of Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are top class, calling them world beaters would be a stretch. What Arsenal do have is a group of budding youngsters that are consistently featuring in the first team this season.

Under Unai Emery, these youngsters are currently flourishing with the like of Gabriel Martinelli, Joe Willock and Bukayo Saka all impressing thus far. There is a high chance that a manager like Mourinho will overlook these youngsters for more proven talents and end up stifling their development in the process.

#1: Pragmatic style of play

Mourinho's tactics are completely opposite to what Wenger has embedded at the club.
Mourinho's tactics are completely opposite to what Wenger has embedded at the club.

Mourinho is known for playing a pragmatic style of football, setting up defensively and not implementing an exciting, offensive style. Some would remember the 'Park the bus' mentality which Jose Mourinho had during his time at Old Trafford, something United fans absolutely loathed. Arsenal fans have criticised Emery for his defensive approach to matches and understandably so but why would those same fans then call for Mourinho to be appointed?

Throughout the year's, Arsenal have been known for their offensive, eye-catching brand of football with slick passes and quick movement to leave the opposition flummoxed. The Gunners need to preserve the values Arsene Wenger set in place and maintain the club tradition of beautiful, free-flowing football which was introduced during the Wenger's time. Replacing a defensive-minded coach like Emery with another one like Mourinho is not the solution for Arsenal's problem.
