The heart of the matter

If reports coming out of England are to be believed, Everton have reached an agreement with Juventus over the signing of Moise Kean. The Italian is expected to fly to England tomorrow to undergo his medical and sign the contract.

Initial reports suggest that the Premier League outfit have splashed €32 million on securing the signing of the Italian international and the amount may rise up to €40 million with add-ons that have been agreed upon. The reports further suggest that the player is set to pocket £2.75 million a year.

Kean just had one season left on his contract and had the Old Lady opted against renewing his contract, they would have lost him for free next year. The Merseyside club earlier sold midfielder Idrissa Gueye to Paris Saint-Germain for a fee understood to be around €32 million and they have used that money to strengthen their attack.

With Gonzalo Higuain returning to the club, it was understood that one of Mario Mandzukic or Kean may be offloaded. Juventus were thought to be holding out for a fee around €60 million for the latter but seem to have reached an agreement with the Toffees at an amount lower than the one quoted above.

However, at this juncture, there isn't any clarity regarding a buy back clause in the contract and it remains to be seen how that aspect plays out in the coming days.

What's next?

It will be interesting to see how Marco Silva maximizes the potential of the young Italian international.
