Ray Parlour: Signing Cesc Fabregas would be a mistake by Arsenal

Ray Parlour believes Cesc Fabregas would be a liability for Arsenal

Former Arsenal midfielder believes Arsene Wenger moving for Cesc Fabregas is wrong and signing the Spaniard would be a huge mistake by the club.

Fabregas has been heavily linked with a return to the Gunners, after the new manager of Barcelona Luis Enrique admitted he would look to overhaul the squad this summer following a poor campaign at the Camp Nou.

A number of clubs have been alerted to the availability of Fabregas, with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal keeping an eye on him. Arsenal are keen on a reunion with their former captain, who left them in 2011 for the Catalan giants.

Ray Parlour however, who made 466 appearances for the Gunners, believes it would be a mistake to go for the former Arsenal captain.

Parlour told reporters: “The problem with Fabregas is where do you put him in the team?

“They have got very similar players to Fabregas – they have Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere – if you bring Fabregas back where do you fit him in?

“He was great for the club but forwards should be much more of a priority.

“You look at Manchester City and Liverpool and they have much better forwards.”
