Real Madrid star Alvaro Morata wants to work with current Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte

What’s the story?

Real Madrid are set to undergo a huge change to their squad in the summer and now latest reports from Spanish publication Diario Gol claim that Alvaro Morata has told the Spanish giants that he wants to join Premier League leaders Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

The Spaniard has failed to land a regular starting berth with Zidane preferring to start the tried and tested ‘BBC’ (Bale, Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo) trio for all the crucial matches. Morata recently added more credence to the rumours by saying that he would like to play under Antonio Conte in the future.

Premier League bound?

The 24-year old Madrid-born striker has grown increasingly frustrated with the lack of opportunities and this is not the first time there have been reports of him being linked with a move to the Premier League.

Having come back from an impressive spell at Juventus at the beginning of the 2016/17 season, Morata was expected to play a much bigger role under Zidane, but now, a move away from the La Liga giants could just rejuvenate the talented striker’s career.

The heart of the matter

It promises to be a summer of huge change at Real Madrid and plenty of big names are expected to enter and exit the revolving doors of Santiago Bernabeu. Among the big-name arrivals, Chelsea star Eden Hazard and Manchester United’s David de Gea have already reportedly sealed moves to Madrid while Monaco youngster Kylian Mbappe and Borussia Dortmund’s Aubameyang could also be signed.

On the other hand, James Rodriguez's time at Madrid looks all but over and now Alvaro Morata could join him and depart the Spanish giants at the end of the season. Also, Morata joining Chelsea could be used by Florentino Perez in the negotiations to sign Belgian superstar Eden Hazard.

What’s next?

Diego Costa’s future looks uncertain at Chelsea and Antonio Conte will be on the lookout for a quality replacement. Still only 24, Morata will look to use the limited opportunities he gets at Madrid from now until the end of the season to show the world that he is a top quality striker.

Author’s take

At 24, Morata is at the peak of his career and if he is not getting regular playing time, the decision to join Chelsea is definitely a good choice by the Spaniard. The Premier League will allow the striker to test himself in a new league and establish himself as one of the game's premier marksmen.
