Gareth Bale is currently on the receiving end of a backlash from some Real Madrid fans after the forward missed a glorious chance in Wednesday’s El Clasico. Real Madrid secured an impressive 1-1 draw at the Camp Nou in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final.

Lucas Vázquez put Real Madrid in the lead after just six minutes, but Barcelona rallied back to snatch the equaliser through Malcom in the second half. Despite Lionel Messi being introduced in the last 30 minutes, there was little the Argentine could do as the game ended 1-1.

Both teams will square off again in three weeks’ time at the Bernabeu for the second leg, but it appears many Real Madrid fans were unimpressed with Bale’s performance on Wednesday night.

The Wales international replaced Vinicius Junior in the second half but did very little to justify his place. The highlight for Bale, unfortunately, was missing a goal which could have secured a win for Real Madrid.

Barca goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen was out of his goal area, but Bale took too many touches and ended up missing, with the goal at his mercy. Most Madrid fans have not forgotten the miss and took to Twitter to lash out at the former Tottenham star.

Bale joined the Spanish giants in 2013 and has gone on to win a number of trophies, including four Champions League titles.

However, he has never really dominated games on his own and was often overshadowed by Cristiano Ronaldo. It was thought that the Welsh winger would take his game to the next level following the Portuguese’s departure last summer.

Bale’s crucial miss against Barcelona has made him the target of his own fans once again, with some even calling for his sale.
