What's the story?

Former Real Madrid midfielder, Fernando Redondo said that he was hurt to know that the Blancos wanted to sell him despite giving everything to the club.

In case you didn't know...

The Argentine international, Fernando Redondo, is among the best foreign players to ever play for Real Madrid and he won two LaLiga titles along with two Champions League trophies and one Intercontinental Cup during his time with Los Blancos.

The midfielder left the Spanish giants to join AC Milan in 2000, where he suffered an unfortunate knee injury during one of his first training sessions with the club, ruling him out from playing football for two-and-a-half years.

He made his return to the football field for Milan during the 2002-03 season, but another knee injury in the course of the 2003-04 season forced him to hang his boots in 2004.

The heart of the matter

Speaking to Marca, Fernando Redondo reveals the reason why Real Madrid sold him to AC Milan in 2000.

He said:

"Florentino [Perez] was committed to the campaign to bring in [Luis] Figo, who cost a lot of money, and Milan offered 18 million euros for me.
"It was a lot of money for a 31-year-old footballer. At that time Pirri had arrived as director and he warned me that there was a proposal from Milan and that the club had agreed to accept it.

He further elaborated:

"It hurt me a little that they wanted to sell me, but on the other hand it was Milan and there was [Silvio] Berlusconi calling me to go [to the Rossoneri].
"I had given everything to Madrid, winning two Champions Leagues and two league titles, among other trophies."

What's next?

Real Madrid will host Eibar at the Bernabeu Stadium later today before playing Leganes FC at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque on April 16.
