Reports: Chelsea agree deal with Atletico Madrid for the signing of midfielder Tiago

Chelsea close to sign Tiago

Chelsea have reportedly agreed the free transfer of Atletico Madrid midfielder Tiago, after Jose Mourinho was keen on a reunion with the midfielder at Stamford Bridge, according to the Daily Mail.

Tiago worked under Jose Mourinho during the Portuguese managers first spell in west London, but was subsequently moved on before settling down at Atletico.

The Portuguese midfielder has become an integral part of an Atletico Madrid team which won the La Liga this season and were runners-up in the Champions League final, losing 4-1 to their close rivals Real Madrid.

Despite being an important member of the team, Tiago is out of contract this summer and that has prompted Jose Mourinho to make a move for the 33-year-old anchor man.

Mourinho has already agreed a deal for Diego Costa, and the Spanish international is expected to finalise a move to the club within the coming weeks.

Atletico’s main men have been linked with moves away, with many believing their outstanding performances both domestically and in Europe has put the club under the spotlight in terms of putting their star players on the market.

Saul Niguez is poised to replace Tiago in the heart of the midfield, once Tiago joins Chelsea, as the 19-year-old is highly-rated at the Vicente Calderon.
