Reports: Chelsea favourites to sign Real Madrid star rated at £70m

Conte wants him!

What’s the rumour?

Reports claim that Chelsea have stepped up their efforts to sign Isco from Real Madrid. The attacker had been previously linked with both the Manchester clubs as well.

The Background

Isco was signed by Real Madrid from Malaga in June 2013 for €30 million. This is his fifth season at the club and he has gone on to make 227 appearances in all competitions for them. He has managed to find the net 39 times and is someone who is capable of the spectacular.

Primarily a central attacking midfielder, Isco has also been used on either flank because of his ability to dribble past players and also play inch-perfect forward balls to the attackers. He was also tipped by Casillas to become Spain's most important player in the near future.

The heart of the matter

Despite playing a pivotal role in Real Madrid's recent triumphs, Isco has found game time hard to come by, with Zidane preferring the trio of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Casemiro. This has led to disappointment in his camp and if rumours are to be believed, he will push for an exit this summer.

Both the Manchester clubs have expressed an interest in the player but we now believe Chelsea have overtaken them. He would be a great addition to The Blues who seems to be struggling for quality up front and may want to sign the Spaniard as he can provide fresh creativity and add strength to their squad.

It is also rumoured that his former team-mate Morata, who made the switch last year, has already started hunting for homes in London for his close friend.

Rumour probability: 7/10

Isco's future has been a talking point for quite a while now and the rumours are gathering pace. There is every chance that this story will drag on until the very end of the transfer window.

Author’s Take

With Zidane very rarely changing his personnel or his formation, Isco may be looking for opportunities elsewhere. Without question, he will be a brilliant addition to any team in Europe and a transfer saga awaits us all.

Madrid are already planning a major overhaul this summer and there will be no shortage of suitors to the Spaniard if they decide to sell him.
