Reports: Paris Saint-Germain interested in signing Sergio Aguero
Aguero was selected in the 23-man shortlist for the 'The Best FIFA Men's Player 2016' but doesn't seem to feature in Pep Guardiola's plans.
Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero as they look to fill the void left by the departure of talismanic striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic – who moved to Manchester United in the summer.
Aguero has had a prolific campaign so far under new Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola – having scored 14 goals and assisted one in 15 appearances for the Etihad outfit. However, the diminutive Argentine has been dropped from the starting line-up by Guardiola on several occasions this season and this has led to the rumour mills going haywire.
The 28-year-old has carved a niche for himself of being the most prolific striker in the Premier League in recent years. However, there is a feeling that the Argentine doesn’t fit in the philosophy of the former Barcelona manager and is headed for the exit door as part of an impending clear out, which will also see the departure of other dead weight stars in the Manchester City ranks.
According to Express.co.uk, PSG have got in touch with the representatives of Aguero in a bid to get a head start over Real Madrid, who have also been linked with the services of the 28-year-old on many occasions in the past. Los Blancos are looking to seal the deal for the diminutive striker despite an impending transfer ban which will prevent them from signing any player in the next two transfer windows.
Edinson Cavani has been spear-heading the attack for the reigning Ligue 1 champions ever since the departure of Ibrahimovic in the summer and has been in prolific form, scoring 14 goals in 14 games. However, there are question marks regarding his consistency and also his ability to bury half-chances – a trait on exhibition in the Champions League group stage clash against Arsenal, when the Uruguayan missed 4 clear cut chances despite putting his side ahead in the first minute.
Aguero is not the only striker on PSG’s radar with Atletico Madrid talisman Antoine Griezmann also on the wishlist of the oil-rich club. The Parc des Princes outfit are willing to activate the £89 million release clause of the French striker but consider Aguero to be a more realistic target.
Manchester City, on the other hand, have been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and were reported to be close to signing the Gabonese international in the summer transfer window. According to the report, the 27-year-old is Guardiola’s prime transfer target to replace Aguero and representatives of the Etihad outfit are already in touch with Aubameyang’s advisors with a potential move in mind.
