What's the story?

After missing out on Ajax wonderkid - Frenkie de Jong, to Barcelona, PSG plan to hijack Barca's bid for another prodigy.

According to media outlet, Calciomercato, PSG are desperate to secure the services of talented centre back, Matthijs de Ligt, to boost their rear guard in the coming transfer window.

In case you didn't know...

The 19-year-old Dutch centre back has already attracted top clubs across Europe due to his majestic performances for both The Netherlands and Ajax.

It is rare for a player of his age to show world class defensive abilities and composure on the ball. Matthijs de Ligt is a product of the famed Ajax Academy, which is one of the best in the world, producing some great players in every generation.

The heart of the matter

There are wide spread rumours that European giants like PSG, Manchester City, Juventus, and FC Barcelona are at war over the Dutch prodigy, just like they were over Frenkie de Jong. De Ligt had continuously dismissed a move out of Ajax this season, but the tug of war will continue in the summer.

According to the report, PSG has already started making moves to secure the young centre back. PSG president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, is looking to kill two birds with one stone - which will reinforce the team's rearguard and get revenge against Barcelona who managed to sign Frenkie de Jong.

Moreover, according to the Dutch journalist, Marcel van der Kraan, Netherland's reputed outlet, De Telegraaf, believes that PSG are in pole position to sign De Ligt, after losing De Jong to Barcelona.

Rumour rating: 5/10

It is crystal clear that despite De Ligt repeatedly promising his stay with Ajax, he will leave the Dutch club sooner or later like De Jong.

What's next?

It seems highly unlikely that De Ligt will leave Ajax in the January transfer window, but he might consider his exit in the summer. Ajax will face Santiago Solari's Real Madrid in the next round of the UEFA Champions League, and there is no doubt that De Ligt will play a key role for Ajax in defence.

Moreover, PSG are under investigation by FIFA due to a reported breach in the Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, which will only make this endless transfer saga more interesting.
