What’s the story?

There were reports of Barcelona agreeing on personal terms with Luka Jovic as the Catalans eye the youngster as a successor to Luis Suarez. However, reports by AS claim that Real Madrid have countered Barcelona’s action by making a bid for the player themselves.

In case you didn’t know…

Luka Jovic has been absolutely phenomenal in the Bundesliga so far this season. He has outscored the great Robert Lewandowski with 14 goals from just 19 Bundesliga games. As a result, top European clubs like the aforementioned duo and Liverpool were eying a move for him.

Heart of the matter

Subsequently, Barcelona reportedly agreed on personal terms with the player but Real Madrid seem to have woken up as they have made a €45 million for the player, which is the first bid the Galacticos have made for the youngster.

The report also adds that the Merengues now lead the way to sign the Frankfurt star, who is playing in Germany on loan from Benfica. Since Frankfurt have announced that they are going to sign the player outright, it is likely that the Galacticos will have to negotiate with the German outfit.

Rumour probability rating: 7/10

The main source of the story are Bild and they are quite reliable when it comes to players in Germany. With Benzema in his 30s and with no proper backup for him, this looks like a deal which might be of interest for the Galacticos, especially given that Jovic is young and is perfect for the new transfer strategy of Madrid.

What’s next?

There is a good chance for Luka Jovic to finish this season as the highest scorer in the Bundesliga. If that happens, his price will further skyrocket and Frankfurt would be hoping for just that.
