What's the story?

According to the reputed Spanish outlet, AS, Real Madrid are considering an immediate move for Krzysztof Piatek, who has been the stand-out player for Serie A side, Genoa, this season. The Los Blancos would like to force the transfer in January in order to avoid competition from other clubs, as the player is already in demand.

According to the report, the Los Blancos have also sent scouts to Murcia where the Italian club is holding a training camp in the inaugural winter break.

In case you didn't know..

Krzysztof Piatek is a Polish striker who joined Genoa last summer, for a fee of 4.5 million euros. With his staggering numbers since the start of the season, the 23-year-old has attracted many top clubs from Europe.

Piatek has scored 13 Serie A goals in the 21 appearances he has made, so far. The Polish man is the second-highest scorer in the Italian league, trailing just Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored 14 league goals, since his arrival in Turin, last summer.

With 6 goals in 2 Copa Italia appearances, the Polish attacker has registered 19 goals in just 21 appearances for his side. Piatek is one of the hottest prospects who'd be in demand, arrives the summer transfer window. Real Madrid are keen on finalising a deal now, rather than facing stiff competition from either of Europe's big spenders in the summer.

The heart of the matter

With Mariano and Gareth Bale both injured, Karim Benzema is the only available forward for Real Madrid's away trip to Real Betis. Since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, goals have not been flowing in the Bernabeu.

Bale and Benzema have failed to impress in Ronaldo's absence. On the other hand, the new signing, Mariano, has spent most of his Real Madrid tenure dealing with injuries.

Solari's men are finding themselves in misery after experiencing the scarcity of goals since the start of the season. It's high time that Real Madrid must sign a top-quality goal-scorer to fill the attacking void left by Cristiano Ronaldo.

With the increasing demand of their star forward across Europe, Genoa could be demanding a sum in the region of 50 million euros to offer his services to Real Madrid.

Rumour rating: 6/10

With the Spanish giants struggling with injuries and failing to replicate Ronaldo's figures, Florentino Perez might make an attempt to sign Genoa's star forward.

What's next?

With the latter stages of the season approaching, Real Madrid desperately needs a striker. It is highly unlikely that the likes of either of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, Eden Hazard, Icardi would make a January switch.

Hence, Krzysztof Piatek remains the best toy in the market. Florentino Perez might be splashing some mammoth sum if the Real Madrid hierarchy feels that the Polish striker is fit to represent the club of Real Madrid's stature.
