The Mizoram Football Association will host the Northeast Zone Qualifying Round of the country’s coveted National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy in Aizawl between February 11-16, 2019.
The premier inter-state tournament will have qualifiers played in several zones across the country. The seven states of the North East will be divided into two groups with the top team from both groups qualifying for the finals.
Mizoram is placed in Group A with Meghalaya and Tripura while Group B will feature former champions Manipur, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.
The State’s FA has announced a list of 25 probables all featuring from Mizoram Premier League clubs.
As many as 12 players were called from 2nd Division I-League side Chhinga Veng FC, eight players from Chanmari FC, three from Electric Veng FC and one each from Chawnpui FC and Ramhlun North FC.
As per the rules of Santosh Trophy, 20 players will be selected for the final squad, among which five players should be of under 21 years.
Mizoram have won the Santosh Trophy in 2014 beating Railways in the final played at Siliguri while they lost both their semi-finals matches in the last two occasions.
