Andre Breitenreiter will not be Schalke's coach for the next football season, the German club has confirmed.

After one year in charge, Breitenreiter's tenure came to an end as incoming sporting director Christian Heidel has other plans on coaching position next season, reports Xinhua.

"I talked to Christian Heidel this week and he told me honestly and directly that this would be my last game on Schalke's bench," Breitenreiter told Sky Sport in the pre-match interview on Saturday.

German media already speculated for weeks about Breitenreiter's dismissal, and that Augsburg coach Markus Weinzierl will take the helm for next season.

The 42-year-old coach joined Schalke in June 2015 after putting pen to paper on a deal until June 2017. The "Knappen" have secured their spot in UEFA Europa League next season as Breitenreiter led Schalke to a fifth place finish in the Bundesliga standings.
